Nov 22, 2014 10:06 AM in response to hughhorstmanby Allan Eckert,Since Time Machine is software, it does not have any oil in it. The Time Capsule which is the device that Time Machine usually backs up to very well might have oil in it.
If there is oil leaking from your Time Capsule that is a good sign that it needs to go back to Apple to be checked.

In that case, no it is not filled with oil. At best, the internal hard drive is pre-lubricated and factory sealed. On the other hand, capacitors are known to use oil and they are used as part of the TC's circuit board. This would have to do with the TC's power circuitry.

Level 10 (105,203 points)
WirelessAnd, if you suspect that the oil level might be low, you can always use the dipstick to check.
