iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.
However, yo need to update to 3.1.3, the last update for the 1G to get most compatible apps:

A 1G iPod can go to iOS 2.2 via iTunes and iOS 3.1.3 via

The iPD still play music like it did when it was new. It also does mail and some other things like it was new too.

But the only issue is that I have better technology at my disposal. A much stronger and more advanced tablet, a smartphone, and multiple computers.
Unfortunately, it wouldn't make sense for me to go back to using it like I used to almost 7 years ago.

The apps may not work but the music still plays on... I'd keep it and use it as my beaten around pocket juke box. OR give to a kid, or try to sell it. Good luck. Cheers.
