Q: iPhone factory unlock not working

Hello

I just got my iPhone 5s factory unlocked directly by AT&T, but it is still showing the message: SIM not valid (on itunes and phone itself).

I called AT&T personally and they say their system shows my imei as already unlocked, so i wonder why i cant activate it.

i am following the steps here iPhone: About unlocking but i still receive the same error message.

Any idea?

Inconscistencies? This is an ATT phone, theyr unlocked directly when i submitted their online form.

i do not know why the **** that CDMA message appeared. I connected and disconnwcted the phone several times.

i already answered i restore as new and also from different backups.

that is what apple told me, that they have had not received the att ticket.

but when i call att they say it is unlocked and i have to do a restore.

so how many restores need i to do??? I am tired

You think i have the time to read all TOS agreement?, sorry mr perfection

i bought this phone from a firiend, he requested att to unlock it, and as att asks many personal info, he is helping me with that.

    SO WHERE THE INCONSISTENCIES ARE????

it is driving me crazy i dont know a **** about tickets, i just want to use my phone and get rid of att.

So wait until Apple receives the ticket. There nothing more you can do. And there is nothing more WE can do.

You have no control over AT&T since you are not the one that made the unlock request. Ranting here is not going to get anything done, not going to influence Apple (since we are not Apple employees and they do not participate in the forum) and won't get anything done any faster, except maybe get the users that answer questions here to ignore you faster.

You never said you restored as new, I've read the entire post. Your "friend" needs to work with the parties to get this resolved.

I just called Apple to ask them to review over my situation, because the same thing is happening to people from different countries. after their carriers unlocked their phones their are getting the SIM Not Valid message

I talked to the most negative and negligent Senior Advisor that Apple may had hired, a jerk named Jeffrey.

While i was trying to explain him the situation he only could tell me APPLE CANT UNLOCK YOU PHONE. and i told him 100 times my phone is already unlocked from AT&T and i am not asking you to do that.

what a torture to deal with such a lazy person.

The fact is that after my investigation, i have noticed that iphones unlocked by carriers from USA and Europe, are having this issue after the unlocking process. Some people can solve it after a single restore, some other need more than 8 restores, and some of us have not solved it yet.

So my conclusion is that this issue should be related to Apple servers, because the only thing in common that i could find between O2 and ATT, or Vodafone and Orange, or Verizon and Telekom, is APPLE ACTIVATION SERVER.

Carriers really have no more to do here, they only send the unlock request to Apple and it is Apple which process it.

After a carrier send the unlocking request to apple there is nothing more they can do, everything else depends on Apple. So if Apple activation server is having issues with some IMEI or something like that, we will never know. Because Negligent persons at Apple are too lazy to take a look at that, they dont even search in google.

    So lets wait

Carriers did their part and sent a request to apple.

If apple do not receive the request, they think it is the carrier which never made the request.

The AT&T email generally says to wait 24 hours. After that, you restore the phone in iTunes as a new phone, not from a backup. After seeing the Congratulations message, you can restore your backup.

I am facing the same problem too. I have got my iPhone 5s unlocked and it worked fine for almost the last three weeks. Then, I am no longer able to use any other SIM and it seems to be locked again!!

Did you find any solution to the issue?!

Got it unlocked how, exactly? ONLY the carrier it's locked to can authorize a legitimate unlock.

It is through a third party company. I have checked with Apple as well as the third party and they both confirmed "it is unlocked"

Sorry. No 3rd party can legally do that.

Hi, you are not the only one.  I have the same issue.  Basically speaking, Apple's instruction for unlocking iphones IS NOT WORKING in some cases.  Even though my original carrier AT&T told me they had unlocked my phone each time when I called them, Apple's iOS diagnosis always said the phone is locked to AT&T.  Don't know which party "is" lying.  But the most straightforward answer should be Apple and AT&T is NOT working cooperatively to serve customers.

I am glad I got rid of AT&T now, and I will get rid of Apple in the future for sure!

That means AT&T did not process the unlock.

There is nothing Apple can do about it. Only AT&T can legally authorize the unlock. You'll have to deal with them.

I have the same problem with ATT iPhone 5c. I did the unlock request on the att website. I got the email that the unlock is completed. I followed the steps to unlock the phone in iTunes.  When I put a different sim card I get SIM not valid message. What's going on?

You followed the steps to unlock the phone in iTunes. So you restored the device as new, and when that was complete, you received the notification in iTunes; "Congratulations, your iPhone has been unlocked!" Is that correct? Because if you did not see the Congratulations message, the unlock is not completed.

This is what I did according to the instructions

Congratulations! Here are your unlock instructions:

    1. Open iTunes on your Mac or PC and verify that you have Internet connectivity.

    2. Ensure the original SIM card that came with this device is inserted in your iPhone.

    3. Connect your iPhone using the dock connector to USB cable that came with your iPhone.

    4. Backup and restore your iPhone using iTunes. For information on backup and restore, please visit http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414.

    5. After restoring, your iPhone will be unlocked.

I never got congratulations message in iTunes. Why I didn't get the congratulations message if the phone should be unlocked?

ATT says my phone is unlocked. Apple support says we can't unlock your phone. Talk to your carrier. I don't get this. Maybe there's some bug in iTunes software or servers that won't let me unlock since iTunes supposed to give me the congratulations message.
