Q: Import from iMovie to Final Cut Pro x

HI

can anyone help?

ive upgraded my iMovie library from 9.09 to iMovie 10, in order to be able to send projects to final cut pro x, which you can do from within iMovie (10 only),

however I want to import all my iMovie events into final cut and can't find the option under "file-import"? Where the instructions show that it should give me the optIon to import all iMovie events.

can anyone suggest the best way, of moving my entire library from iMovie to final cut, so I can manage all videos from direct within final cut effectively making iMovie redundant. My videos are stored on a drobo unit.

i am using an iMac running Mavericks OsX 10.9.4

thanks,

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

Thanks for your offer for help.

When I shut down the computer last night, i couldn't export fm iMovie to FCPX.

When I turned it on this morning, it worked.

    Go figure?

    Thanks again

I recently came across this feature as well for moving projects/events over to FCPX from iMovie 10.  I have found the menu item activation to be variable and haven't tested enough to see if there is a defined pattern on how to make it active.  But it does work when it is active and it seems everything gets moved over well enough.

Keep in mind that the disk space will be share between the files('hard links') so it doesn't double up on disk space usage *if* you keep the files on the same drive.  If you delete them from one or the other library it won't necessarily free up space unless the libraries are on separate drives.

I have a similar question.  In iMovie 10.0.6 there is no option under the file menu to send to FCP for me.  I do not have FCP on this computer, but I want to send all the files to FCP on another computer.  First I need to export to a compatible file.  Is the fact that I don't have FCP the problem?  On my old version of iMovie (9.0.8), there is the option to export to a FCP file, even though I don't have FCP on this computer... so I'm not sure that's the reason.

I don't know about that version but the current version needs FCP installed. You perhaps can download the FCP trial version from the Apple web site.
