Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

Gentlemen Why you do not you read. I solved this matter long time ago and i published her the solution: go to the wifi you use  normally, from setting. Press i for information against this specific wifi. With the next screen select forget this network Then reselect again and enter the password if locked . IT IS THAT EASY

LOL you need to read all other posts as mine one.

"Your solution" is no valid for other ones.

"Your solution" was aplied for 99% of us with no success.

You even don't know we specify 5GHz N and 2.4GHz band differences.

Found my solution and want to share with you.

my solution was found after reading gazole reply about ios8 NEW iOS ibeacon feature.

I live at Brazil and have a lot of Apple devices (iPad 1/3/Mini, iPhone 3G/4/4S, MacbookPro 13"/17", Time Capsule) and like all of you this issue makes me very annoyed.

    I updated my iPad 3 (Wi-Fi) to ios8.1.1

Made all ios fix suggestions (disable wi-fi networking and others) but still couldn't use wi-fi at 5Ghz N band ( I can log in but can't navigate). It can connect to 2.4GHz as usual.

then I read gazole's about local ibeacons related issues post  (but didn't made beacon interval setting change as he wrote) and changed my router (TP-LINK N750)  5GHz wireless setting:

ONLY MADE ONE OF GAZOLE'S SUGGESTIONS ON MY ROUTER (NONE OF OTHERS AT GAZOLE'S POST)

    Region setting

    BEFORE: Mexico

AFTER: Brazil (you need to change to your actual country)

    and rebooted the router.

now I can connect to 5GHz and navigate normally.

I didn't test if was the reboot or the region change (or the both) that made effect (because I don't like to give chance to bad luck =P ) but it resolves my problem.

If your region is still set to USA and you live at USA, you can try to use other country and reboot and still back to USA again and reboot.

Hope and pray for you to find the same solution.

Thanks for gazole and all of members of this thread.

    See ya

just add another information: my Beacon interval was set to 100 as default, I never changed it.

people that use 2.4GHz wi-fi band willl not experience this issue but I encourage them to fix REGION settings too from now to avoid future iOS features.

With respect, if you took your own advice and maybe actually read the posts too, you would see many people have already tried this and for them it didn't work, so sadly whilst it may have helped your own case, you really DON'T have the solution at all.

VVery interesting whTs come up regarding AWDL. I suspect that is what is causing my grief with dropping throughput. I thought it was something to do with control centre and/or AirPlay. Apple are absolutely useless for letting this bug get through and apparently doing nothing about it. I have bombarded the apple care advisors with this info and links to various sites detailing this bug. Suggest we all do the same. Apple will prob not care but if enough people hit then maybe, just maybe they might act. Ios 8 is the pits but we are stuck now - it all worked great in ios 7

And two months after there first post, two or three IOS updates and no response from Apple, we are still with the issue.

I think we all should file a Complaint with the BBB, we need to get their attention because they are just ignoring this issue. I have 2 other ipads that will stay on ios7 indefinitely. As of right now, Apple has pushed an update that has made most of our devices unusable or changed they way in which they operate. They need to allow for rolling back in case issues occur. ALL software developers do this!

First, I would be glad to sign a petition or go to a sight and complain to the BBB about this issue.  Secondly, not all software developers do this, as I currently work for a company that makes software and not all of the software they release for the different products and computer will they allow a roll back to a previous OS.

If you want to file a complaint with the BBB, put the link of where to go and I'll do my best to do it as well. If you want to sign a petition, provide the link and I'll look over the petition and possibly sign it.  If not then I won't worry about it.  My hope is that apple see's these issues and releases an update.

Also, I have replaced my iPhone and my wife's iPhone 6 and the issue continues with the random dropping/disconnecting of WiFi.

I believe figuring out the science in Interstellar is much easier than trying to figure out the issue here... ;-)

"Perform a speed test (many apps to choose from) and simply pull open the Control Center. This will cause the discoveryd process to browse and advertise services over your WiFi interface. You’ll see an immediate reduction in WiFi speeds that will continue for a minute or two while the AWDL interface continues to browse/advertise. This occurs when Bluetooth is turned on as well as turned off, so it doesn’t appear to be a Bluetooth coexistence issue (where Bluetooth and WiFi overlap frequencies and in this case also use the same chip)."

maybe you need to buy a new router.

I changed router setting and found a solution.

90% of people even know router admin password or the difference between 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz band.

show us screenshots of your router settings

spent most of the day the other day with Apple support trying to get my new Apple air working at least as good as my three-year-old iPad 2... well it didn't happen and I'm still having all kind of glitches even after completely reinstalling the software and firmware. I still have the iPad 2 and iPad air side by side and the iPad 2 runs smooth for the most part while the iPad air is constantly with glitches like the back key will not work when making a post highlighting is very hard and glitchy in copy and paste is not working right not to mention the pages won't load and thenthis faults message comes up saying the server is not responding which is not the truth this must be the default error message Apple has created because simply refreshing the page it comes right up and this never happenson the iPad 2 but constantly on the iPad air. either Apple needs to let everybody River to iOS seven or they need to work overtime on an iOS nine because this is really murder on a brand-new iPhone or iPad it cost as much is the these do.
