Q: Sleep/Wake problems Macbook Pro Yosemite OS X 10.10.  Turning off Sleep did not fix.

I must restart my MacBook Pro each morning.  Set Sleep to Never and still must restart.  Did not have this problem with Mavericks.

Thank you, Linc.  You have been very helpful.  Will set an appointment with the local Apple Store after TG.

I feel it necessary to inform you that I may have discovered the Sleep/Shutdown problem we've been discussing.  My backup app expired and I switched to iDrive (my wife already had a subscription.)  One of the checkboxes, under Preferences is "Automatic Power off after the completion of scheduled jobs."

The box was checked...don't know if the default is checked or unchecked.  Unchecked the box and this morning the MacB was still sleeping and woke up with the touch of a key.

I appreciate the effort you expended in assisting me with the problem I was experiencing and am a bit embarrassed that the solution was so simple and within my grasp.  At least you may now add this question (Automatic power off...) to the checklist.  Thanks again.

I tried this after another really irritating sleep-wake failure (Macbook Pro running latest Yosemite) when in a hurry to get a lecture off my mac and get to where I needed to be to give the lecture.

    I got the following output

    Sep 27 09:03:44  kernel[0] <Notice>: Previous shutdown cause: -40

    Sep 27 21:15:25  kernel[0] <Notice>: Previous shutdown cause: -40

    Sep 29 18:52:11  kernel[0] <Notice>: Previous shutdown cause: -40

    Sep 30 07:42:04  kernel[0] <Notice>: Previous shutdown cause: -40

    Sep 30 14:35:32  kernel[0] <Notice>: Previous shutdown cause: -40

    Oct 1 07:44:15  kernel[0] <Notice>: Previous shutdown cause: -40

    Oct 1 07:50:45  kernel[0] <Notice>: Previous shutdown cause: -40

means nothing to me - does it suggest a solution to you?

    thanks in advance
