Q: ATV 3 Version 7.0 Home Sharing not woking with Yosemite and  iTunes 12

Home Sharing from my Apple TV 3 (A1469) with software 7.0 is not working from the library on my MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) with OS X Yosemite 10.10, Airplay still works but its annoying to have to choose a Song/Movie/TV show from my MBP and then Airplay it to the ATV. Much preferred how well Home Sharing worked.

- I have both devices signed in to the same Apple ID.

- Have tired turning Home Sharing off and on

- Have restored the Apple TV

Using all devices on the same 5G wifi network (Huawei HG659b)

Most annoying thing is it was working perfectly before iTunes 12 was released.

Has anyone else discovered this problem? Does Apple or anyone have a fix?

Please HELP!

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10), Yosemite 10.10

No worries. For me, and now I guess I should count myself lucky, that has been the permanent fix, so I just wanted to clarify which way you'd done it. Good luck with this issue. It is frustrating I know.

Vants and Apple support. reinvigorating the computer name in Sharing system preference solves a lot. Stupid bug fix.

I have tried every option suggested here - name changing worked once but nothing else. I cannot change my computer name every time that i want to use the Apple TV.

Replying only to try and get Apple's attention.

This fixed it!  I'm sure this is the way Apple intended, so easy know I know.

I have renamed both my Mac Book Pro and iTunes library, reinstalled Yosemite and restored Apple TVs, still unable to load the library. It sees it just fine, just can't open. This is super annoying. Makes me want to go to downgrade back to Mavericks.

I figured out my issue and this is what worked for me after several hours of frustration.  Background: I upgraded from Snow Leopard on my iMac to Yosemite which also upgraded my iTunes to version 12.0.1.26. I have apple tv version 3. Under computer on my Apple tv menu it would not see my iTunes library on my mac.  Here is what I did.  I DID NOT CHANGE THE NAME OF MY COMPUTER ON MY IMAC.

On my iMac I opened  tunes and went to upper left corner and clicked on iTunes, preferences, look for sharing tab, Uncheck sharing, go back up to left side if screen You will see iTunes again this time click on File, then home sharing and uncheck. I restarted my iMac.  After it came back up I went back checked what I had just unchecked in both places.  Next I went to my AppleTv and unplugged it, waited about 15 seconds and plugged it back in.  When it came up I went to my main menu and clicked on computer and there it was, my ITUNES LIBRARY.  Of course there are many things that could have cause issues, but after checking them and still know service this is was worked for me.  I am not saying you have to shut down your computer, but it is just what I did. You definitely have to shut down Apple TV and restart.  It now works fine.

Thanks, Rabbit. That's what worked for me. Tried everything else in the past several weeks. Some of these tips worked. Sometimes. But never consistently. After a few days sharing drops again. Now I unplug my router & modem before using iTunes. I don't even bother any more to check if the library is found on my TV beforehand. Only takes a minute & works every time.

But it is annoying. It keeps happening to me ad I do not know why.

I think there is an error with the network behavior in Yosemite. Somehow after a while (after going to sleep?) The Li-Tunes Library on the computer and Apple TV cannot talk to each other anymore ad you basically have to reset the connection. Be it via shut down the router, rename the computer and force it to the network or sign in and off home sharing.

It should be fixed by Apple.

I went ethernet. Apple has no efforts on wifi.

Wifi does not not work. Wired seems to work. Get the mud out your ears.
