Q: iPhone takes long time to return mobile network from no service mode

This is complaint from Vietnam. I'm using iPhone 4S with Vietnamobile SIM. My iPhone takes long time (2 minutes) to return Vietnamobile network from no service mode, it happens when I get out an elevator. I have tested with Androi phone (Samsung) with the same Vietnamobile SIM, it takes only 10 seconds to return the network. Could you please check the issue and feedback?

    Hey there Hung.Ericsson,

If you are still seeing this issue where your iPhone takes longer than expected to rejoin your cellular provider, I would recommend the troubleshooting in the following article to help you get that resolved, or isolated:

If you see No Service in the status bar of your iPhone or iPad

Follow these steps, testing after each.

    1. Tap Settings > Enable Airplane Mode, wait five seconds, then turn off airplane mode.
    2. Restart your device.
    3. Remove the SIM card. If the SIM card is damaged, worn, or bent, or if it's too big or small for the SIM tray, contact your carrier for a new one. Then reinsert the SIM card.
    4. Check for a carrier-settings update: Connect to a Wi-Fi network, tap Settings > General > About, and install any available carrier-settings updates. If you can't connect to Wi-Fi, connect your device to a computer that has iTunes.
    5. Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
    6. Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
    7. Contact your carrier to check for any network or account issues.
    8. Restore your iPhone.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

    Take care,

    Sterling

    Hi sterling r,

I have performed step 1,2,3,4,5,6,8. However the problem still persists.

For step 7, I have also contacted with Vietnamobile operator. They confirmed that there is no issue in their network since only iPhone faces the issue. Samsung phone takes only 20 seconds to return Vietnamoblie network from no service mode.

I have tested with other carrier, Viettel mobile. I got the same result, it takes around 2 minutes to return mobile network from no service mode.

Is there any network steering rule in iPhone? I mean Vietnamoblie network is searched on low priority.

    Thanks and regards,

    Nguyễn Viết Hưng

Thank you for the update! No there is no network prioritization feature on the phone. If the issue is persisting after step 8 in the first reply, then due to the nature of your issue you may find more information by using another one of Apple's support resources - https://getsupport.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action.
