Q: ATV 3 Version 7.0 Home Sharing not woking with Yosemite and  iTunes 12

Home Sharing from my Apple TV 3 (A1469) with software 7.0 is not working from the library on my MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) with OS X Yosemite 10.10, Airplay still works but its annoying to have to choose a Song/Movie/TV show from my MBP and then Airplay it to the ATV. Much preferred how well Home Sharing worked.

- I have both devices signed in to the same Apple ID.

- Have tired turning Home Sharing off and on

- Have restored the Apple TV

Using all devices on the same 5G wifi network (Huawei HG659b)

Most annoying thing is it was working perfectly before iTunes 12 was released.

Has anyone else discovered this problem? Does Apple or anyone have a fix?

Please HELP!

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10), Yosemite 10.10

The problem was NOT theFirewall for me. I don't even run the Yosemite's Firewall. The problem was iTunes 12 and it was fixed through 4 different fixes. The Problem might have been the Firewall for YOU however. It seems like several folks had several different bugs

Cheers, this worked for me. I sat in front of my TV and just added the number 2 to my computer name and then my ATV sprung into life and all of my content was now there. I've since deleted the number and all still seems well.

It was bizarre that airplay worked but home sharing didn't, chalk that one up to a mystery.

Vants solution beautifully worked for me! My two Apple TVs are now back in service under Yosemite! Thanks Vants!

I had been working for a good hour and a half on this with Apple Support. They are supposed to call me back soon, so I will advise them of this very simple solution: Change the name of your computer in the System Prefeerences Sharing... and that does it! Total bliss, hapiness !

Restarting my Apple TV fixed it for me.

I have an ATV2 and an iMac. Home Sharing worked before and shortly after installing a new AV receiver and TV. Then it quit. I've rebooted everything, including the router. I've changed the name of my computer and my iTunes library. I've turned off Home Sharing on the ATV2 and reentered my user name and Apple ID. Nothing works. Is there no hope?

So, did you go into iTunes and login through File > Home Sharing and also through iTunes > Preferences  > Sharing. I had to do the sign in part both ways to get my iTunes library to show up on my ATV after installing Yosemite. I had the same sort of issue when I did the upgrade to Mavericks also. In all fairness to Apple, upgrading operating systems is almost as bad as upgrading Windows. It is ALWAYS better to do a clean installation than doing an upgrade. It is always little things like ATV or Wireless issues that bring down the house of cards that is an upgrade. I hope THIS helps you!

    I just updated to Yosemite.

Perhaps I should have run a clean install.

So far, none of the proposed fixes are permanent. I now end up rebooting the Mac Mini (my iTunes server) and restart the ApplTV3 every time we start want to use it.

Rename the machine, restarting iTunes, fiddling with the rirewall, restarting the router etc are not viable fixes - sorry.

I think I need to look for alternatives, as the whole AppleTV / OS X / iTunes setup is rapidly become unusable.  Sadly an expensive waste of time....

The easiest and fastet mode to reconnect the ATV to my computer is to "airplay" (use button "rectangle with te triangle inside") from iTunes on my iMac to the ATV. It immediately connects and the whole iTunes Library is available on the ATV.

Not really sustainable though but it lasts at least a day.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Seems to still work using the remote app on the iPhone

Switch on my Win7 iTunes virtual server - sorry to say, it currently works noticeably better than the OS X offerings.

I do hope Apple pull themselves out of this - lately to many "just works" items having been just not working at all. I have not seen any efforts

at all in trying to address some very basic problems.

Merry Christmas and happy new year to all!

I changed the name of my computer AND restarted Apple TV. Then it worked; name change alone did not.

I have this issue with all versions of firmware in ATV, all iOS' and all versions of iTunes. Airplay works all the time so does playing music of my purchased albums. Screen saving pictures from my Mac Mini work as well.

It takes me restarts of all devices including my router. It sometimes works for days and sometimes have to restart all devices several times per day. All devices except the router are Apple make.

    Unreliable to say the least.

    Hans
