Q: Photostream photos delete after 30 days or after 1000 photos?

This question has been asked a few times, but it seems as though every thread has a different response and people like me are unclear as to how photos are managed on photostream.

I read that photos are kept on photostream for 30 days and then they are deleted.  I also have read that up 1000 photos can be stored, and after that, the oldest photo gets deleted for the 1001st photo.

So my question is, if you have 500 photos on photostream, do these delete after 30 days?  Or do photos only delete after 30 days if you have reached the 1000 picture max?

Thank you

Photos are deleted from PhotoStream in the cloud after 30 days, regardless of the number of photos stored there.

Once synced to your device, they will remain there indefinitely until you hit 1000 photos in the PhotoStream album on the phone, at which point the oldest photos will be deleted and newer photos will replace them.
