And then you updated Logic to 9.1.8?   Yes Logic 9.1.8 does work on Yosemite, just not very well, graphically sluggish.

    Hi,

I'm not the best one to help with this as I've used the same installation for a long time and always loaded the operating system in new.

Is the external drive a boot drive with the operation system on it? If so you can copy the Logic "Preferences" file from the external installation to the Yosemite installation.

It's located in the     Users/YourName/Library/Preferences folder, the name is com.apple.logic.pro.plist

This is a different Library/Preferences that is located in the root position of your drive.

If you had a default project you started up with each time you can copy it over as well, it will usually be located here.

    Users/YourName/Music/Logic

These are correct if your external drive is a boot drive and has a Logic install on it.... the files need to be copied to the same location on the Yosemite install.

Have a gig, heading out, someone will jump in I'm sure.

    Pancenter bang on as always.

Remember the Library folder at Users/YourName/Library/ (on your boot drive) is invisible by default. It really is there though. I make mine permanently visible through terminal:

    chflags nohidden ~/Library

Or you can go to: Finder, Finder menu Go then Go to folder...

For what it's worth, I found that contrary to Apple advice Logic 9.1.8 works on Yosemite and Mavericks as does surprisingly Logic 7.2. I admit that I haven't tried much with that and only use it occasionally to convert old files but at least it's something.

    Note:

Apple haven't stated that LP9.1.8 does not work with Yosemite (as far as I am aware)

It is simply that some people have reported the sluggish performance of LP9.1.8 under Yosemite....
