Q: 2011 MacBook Pro and Discrete Graphics Card

I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro (2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 memory) running OS 10.8.2.  It has two graphics components: an AMD Radeon HD 6750M and a built-in Intel HD Graphics 3000. Since I've had the computer, the screen would get a blue tint when the computer switched between them.

However, as of two days ago, the problem has become substantially more severe.  The computer was working fine, when all of a suddent the screen when completely blue.  I had to force restart the computer.  Since then, the screen has gone awry on numerous occassions - each time necessitating a hard reset.

I installed gfxCardStatus, and have discovered that the computer runs fine using the integrated card, but as soon as I switch to the discrete card - the screen goes .

I am just wondering what my options are (any input on any of these would be appreciated!):

1) Replace the logic board.  Would this necessarily fix the issue?

2) Is there any way to "fix" the graphics card?

3) Keep using gfxCardStatus and only use the integrated graphics card.  This is definitely the easiest/cheapest option, but to have such a computer and not be able to use the graphics card seems like a real shame.

4) Is there any other alternative?

Even as an engineer of 20 years plus experience posting in my spare time for 6 years on macrumors before I came onto this thread I doubt I would have had the time to help 7775 users to give me each 5 points for every tricky problem I have helped them solve, I would have no income.  In fact I'd say unless these problems were very easy ones to solve I'd say that borders on the impossible.  Therefore it must be harvesting the new easy peasy answers to amass that many so quickly surely?

Of course, that must be it, how could you be wrong.

You asked for proofs so I asked you to tell me what proofs you wanted.

Clearly you were not actually looking for proofs to be provided.

no, clearly you're just playing, as always.

if you wanted to give any proof, you would have last time. why now and not then.

always the same schema, flip it all around when convenient.

as many here, beside waiting for a real solution from Apple, stop reading your posts in this thread is my next dear wish.

don't know about the first, unfortunately I know the second won't happen.

    happy trolling.

    kayazuki,

if you're in Belgium you should probably check with D3us as he is too.

Ehm, I'd love to, but.. How? When I click his profile, I see no contact data..?

I hope to find a similar service closer by, somewhere near the east of Belgium, anyone?

I found one in the Netherlands, appleparts, but they charge € 245,-.

That's a significant difference compared to the option in Berlin.

I think the question and my inevitable conclusions warranted an answer did it not? With the points system as it is and I think you had only 20 odd thousand points when you started 'contributing' to this thread what is your definitive answer to how you could amass so many points so quickly?

Though feel free to change the subject, take one line of my question and not give a precise answer or even do your usual I'm outa here comment when cornered to give an explicit answer as like my other peers on here we all know what the answer surely has to be.

Or you can keep trolling while Executive relations look at this thread - which is the raison d'etre of why I've persisted with your nonsense particularly since they called this afternoon.  So they know like us without a shadow of doubt you are and have been trolling this thread flagrantly breaking T&C 5,2 for almost the past year.  I have already noticed not one single post of mine has been edited today, or deleted, perhaps the administrators have already heard from Mr Cook's team already...

You already know the answer, you know how the system works, how, and by who points may be awarded, what else can I tell you?

I am too reporting failures on my MBp 2011 15". Blue tint and random crashes on high workloads.

    I'm from Switzerland, Vaud.

What are the chances of Apple fixing this?

That you're going to leave us MBP 2011 users alone forever to help themselves before feeling the heat off the board administrators after my complaint to both them and Mr Cook about your behaviour?

That would be great for us and probably a good idea for you, else I will start asking fellow users on this thread to start emailing me and attaching their views onto my case number I was supplied with this afternoon.

Or perhaps you risk losing all those preciousss points you've worked so truly hard to collect.

    Tara

    To D3us + akamyself:

Darn, I clicked his name, didn't hover it. Oops

    Found it, will mail!

To some others; It seems obvious to me that there is a vicious circle going on of action>reaction.

If you don't respond to a person anymore at all, he won't respond back anymore either (probably).

Some people know how to take a hint, but unfortunately some don't.

Break the circle and voila, there might be a lot less clutter in this slightly large topic
