Hey smcclay, I followed the instructions but toggled Facetime ON to try and activate everything. It worked BUT now, when I toggle iMessage ON, it still says 'waiting for activation'. For some reason, the Facetime activation did not activate the iMessage simultaneously.

In addition, it's not letting me log onto my Apple ID for iMessage either.

    Any suggestions?

Hey smcclay, I followed your instructions but used FaceTime instead of iMessage for the activation and it worked. However, when I tried to toggle iMessage ON after the FaceTime was activated, it didn't work. It's stuck on 'Waiting for Activation'. In addition to all that, my iMessage won't allow me to log onto my Apple ID. Whenever I try logging in, it says 'iMessage Activation: Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again."

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

Actually now, I rebooted my phone and the Facetime activation disappeared as well -__-
I redid everything and even received the correct response from the right phone number and put it into your website but it didn't activate in less than a minute like it said it would. It's been awhile and still no activation.

    I'm just feeling hopeless now.

Please let me know what I can do to fix this.

Never mind everyone! All I had to do was leave my phone off for about 3-5 minutes and after restarting, everything was working. I activated everything using my Mac. It was weird because my Macbook asked me if it wanted me to allow my phone number to use iMessage and FaceTime but after I clicked 'Yes', everything worked out!

What carrier are you trying this on? Prepaid or postpaid?

Hey,so  i did all the steps correctly, receiving the right sender and copy, pasting the string to your website. After i sent it i received a message saying it was sent to my number "6475555555" and if i did all the steps correctly my imessage would turn on, however it didnt work, am i supposed to turn my phone off after receiving that message and wait a couple minutes then back on? Also in my imessage -> send & receive-> only my email address is listed, there is no number there and i can only add more emails and in my phone settings i have +1 (647) 555-5555. does that make a difference? I have a 5s wind (pre-paidd but i topped off my phone and added 2 dollars for international texting) ios 8.0.1.  If anyone else knows the solution to my problem, feel free to reply.

These instructions are great, but in Apple's instructions it says something about enabling logging by going into settings and turning on logging under the cellular tab, but there is no option in the iPhone 5c to turn on logging. It also talks about downloading the profile and installing it by tapping the install button, but when I click that profile link it is just a text file. What does that all mean? Do you know?

Yes you will not see logging unless you install the profile.

    You have two options:

Either you can install the profile and then you will see that option, else you can enable logging using the number code (check on onlinemac)

I can confirm smcclay's solution works flawlessly. You just have to have patience and follow his directions exactly. If it doesn't work the first time around take a break, wait 24 hours and try again.

When I first bought my iPhone I used this method and it worked. I had to reset all my settings today because of an other issue and with it had to reset iMessage again. This time however I cannot find the code in log. What do I do? Since it was already activated does it work on the old code? I need help!

Big KUDOS to SMCCLAY. It took several attempts for this to work for me but work it does - I am beaming with gratitude to SMCCLAY and DexterBrown for leading me to him.

    I went here.

    http://dexterbrown.ca/2014/09/29/how-to-activate-imessage-and-facetime-on-an-iphone-running-on-the-w ind-mobile-network/

At this point, I am on wifi, FaceTime is turned off, I have backed up my iPhone on iTunes, I have all my internet settings like this… http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1845510-Ultimate-iPhone-Setup-Guide-f or-Wind, although I also have APN for personal hotspot set.

I have an iPhone 5C, unlocked with a WIND sim card.

I installed the telephony logging profile rather than dial the *5005* codes. It was straightforward. You have to do it from your phone's browser.

    1. you register to become an apple developer (with a new applied ID if you don't want to use your own one) and then 2. on your phone, press this link the “profile” link which will install the telephony logging feature (asked me for my phone 4 digit PIN). Alternatively you could follow the route given on Dexterbrown's link. Reboot the phone.

    Go to settings/cellular/telephony logging/enable logging.

Next up you go to activate iMessage in settings. As we all know by now, it just sits there saying 'waiting for activation'. LEAVE IT LIKE THIS!!

Now, all the things I have read say wait 2 minutes, or wait 5 minutes. My experience is that this was no where near enough. When I made it work finally this morning, I had left the phone overnight.

So, after you have waited long enough, go back to telephony logging and SAVE LOG.

Sync your phone with iTunes - you'll see it saying at the top 'copying diagnostic information'.

    Now do as Dexter says:

    Go to ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/[Your iPhone]/Baseband if you’re using OS X.

If you’re having a hard time finding the correct Library folder go to the Go menu in the Finder and hold the Option key then click Library.

The file you’re looking for typically has a file name that starts with “log-bb” followed by the date/time and ends with “csi.txt.” Double clicking the file should open it in TextEdit

If, like me, you have tried this process lots of times (through not waiting long enough before saving log) then you will have loads of these csi.txt files. Choose the latest one. double click to open it in text edit

Hit Command-F to enter the search mode. I just typed "enter:" and there was only one result. Dexter says enter “GSM SMS Point to Point PDU (as hex str):” but this is what worked for me. If I hadn't waited long enough before saving my log, then there would be no results for "enter:" and I would start again.

Then you copy the long string of hexadecimal as Dexter says and copy and paste it into SMCCLAY's awesome webpage. theonlinemac.com At this stage you still haven't touched the iMessage button in settings. It is still sitting there saying 'waiting for activation'. Anyhow, 1 minute after hitting submit, the iMessage is activated. I then turn on FaceTime, also in the settings app and bingo!

Thank you to one and all and I hope you all manage to persevere as I have.

Thanks for all the info. I have tried this process multiple times now, including waiting for over 24 hours with logging on before opening the log file, and I never see the sting that starts with "GSM SMS..." in any of the log files. This is iOS 8.1.1 on an iPhone 6. Any idea what might be happening?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    -Dan

I just typed "enter:" instead of searching for the "GSM SMS…" string. worth a shot!

Tried that, and it turned up 15 results, but nothing about GMS SMS. I swear I am following these steps perfectly and have tried everything. I really don't want to have to leave Wind, but if I can't get this working I will have no choice. I am extremely disappointed that Wind cannot simply allow these messages to come back the phone.
