Nov 29, 2014 8:48 PM in response to terpaholic23by XRogue101789,I have this same issue I think. iPhone 6, iOS 8.1.1 connecting via USB to a mid 2012 MBP running Yosemite 10.10.1.
Every time I plug my iPhone in to import photos to iPhoto, it shows a duplicate of every photo, new and old, on the import screen, and imports 2 copies of every photo, even though there is only 1 copy on my phone.
I'm not sure why this happens, but I haven't had a chance to test it with other cameras or phones yet as I don't have regular access to one.

Nov 29, 2014 9:18 PM in response to XRogue101789by terpaholic23,I just turned off my iPhone and turned it back on (while the phone was still connected to my Mac) and it just deleted the duplicate photos on its own. And yeah, this just started happening after I updated to Yosemite too. Try what I did and maybe it'll clear as well.

Nov 29, 2014 9:31 PM in response to terpaholic23by XRogue101789,Nope, didn't work for me. Still have duplicates of all of my old and new photos on the import page, even though I deleted one copy of the old ones the last time I imported them (this didn't remove them from my phone surprisingly enough).

Nov 29, 2014 9:37 PM in response to XRogue101789by terpaholic23,Maybe try restarting both iPhone and computer and reconnect it again?

Nov 29, 2014 9:56 PM in response to terpaholic23by XRogue101789,Nope, didn't work. I've done that before and its the same thing. I'm pretty sure its either an iOS 8 thing or a Yosemite thing affecting a small portion of users, but I can't seem to find anyone who has a solution to this issue.

Dec 2, 2014 7:05 AM in response to terpaholic23by terpaholic23,Just synced my iPhone and Mac and it duplicated it again. I thought the problem was solved. There must be some setting in Yosemite that I'm not aware of. Anyone know?

Are the duplicates exact duplicates? The same file size and the same pixel size?
Which settings do you have for the Photos.app on your iPhone? Is iPhoto Library Beta enabled? Is My Photo Stream enabled?
-
Dec 2, 2014 8:03 AM in response to léonieby terpaholic23,Both library beta and my photo stream are disabled. The duplicates on my Mac are exact. It's only showing one copy on my phone. Is this a setting I can change on my iPhoto on my Mac?

Re: iPhoto 9.6 shows duplicate photos present on iPhone

Just off the phone with someone from apple. For some people (incl me) it seems that the problem is that the iphone (6) (on 8.1.1) imports the actually photo but also the photo stream photo (marked as IMG_xxxx_2)
When I go: Settings>iCloud>Photos and switch off "My Photo Stream' before uploading photo's into iPhoto, the problem is gone.

That looks like My Photo Stream were enabled. Check, if you accidentally enabled it again. If not, reset your iPhone, see: Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Dec 2, 2014 1:27 PM in response to léonieby XRogue101789,Yup, it was My Photo Stream being enabled that was doing it. Jeez, I stuck with Apple products because they were supposed to work seamlessly with each other haha.
