Boost Your iOS 8 Device's Battery Life With This Simple
Then as necessary:
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Dec 3, 2014 6:07 AM in response to lllaassby mslockit,Ok thanks for the advice. I have restored to factory as suggested and while the battery wasn't completely dead this morning it was half way there from full charge (only 9 hours between fully charged to unplug and it wasn't used at all during those hours). I can't even begin to imagine how it's a hardware problem considering before the update I could go DAYS without charging it and after the update I have to charge it every single day or I won't have music during my 20 minute commute to and from work... (I don't use it any other time than that). So no... I don't think it's a hardware issue. I think it's an update issue that Apple need to look into.
One thing that I did notice is that the Mail App seems to bleed the battery life the most. I've changed nothing since the update so this is why I'm convinced it's a software problem. Thanks again for the suggestion it never occurred to me to try a factory restore.

Dec 10, 2014 7:19 PM in response to mslockitby mslockit,*sighs* Apparently my iPod touch 5th gen is so special... it can even drain a fully charged battery to half full while OFF. I mean shut down and everything. This is so darned annoying.

Dec 10, 2014 9:40 PM in response to mslockitby Cunnla,Hi,
Go to the App store and download a free battery-monitoring app, such as Battery HD, and see what it says about your battery.
However, I think you should follow Illaass' advice and make a Genius Bar appointment.

Mar 23, 2015 10:50 AM in response to mslockitby NMBioguy,I had this issue when I bought the iPod Touch 5 after three months of use. I could barely keep a charge for 24 hours , even when turned off. I took it to the Genius bar and they ended up replacing it with a new one. Six months later, the new one did the exact same thing. Almost two years later, today, my iPod will barely even charge. I hardly had enough juice to get the screen that tells you to charge it. This is definitely not a software issue (though iOS 8 did make it worse).

Sep 15, 2016 8:06 AM in response to mslockitby sfischer7435,I went to Genius Bar in an Apple store. They did fix the problem, but every time there is a new update the problem starts all over again. I am over an hours drive to an Apple Store and the wait is horrendous. With an appointment I was there for over 2 hours before I was called up to help. I am going to try and fix it myself this time, but it will have to be done again after another update.

Sep 15, 2016 8:08 AM in response to mslockitby sfischer7435,same thing here. I turned it off so as not to drain the battery so I could use it at the gym. got to the gym and had a dead battery when I turned it on to use on my workout. I think it is a lost cause.

Sep 17, 2016 6:35 AM in response to sfischer7435by Subiesu,Wow. Got a similar problem with my iPod Touch Gen 5 with iOS 9.3.5. This iPod use to hold charge for at least 24 hours with minimal use. Now its 8 hours and the battery is dead. Turning off any 'push' or notification features that I can locate in the Settings didn't seem to help. I resort to 'restore' it via iTunes and turning off wi-fi and any push or notification feature and the problem remains. What did they do at the genius bar?
