Q: Windows 7 BSOD during installation

The weird thing is that, I was able to Bootcamp this computer before, multiple times. But two days ago, my Windows partition started BSOD. Nothing I did repaired my Windows HD, so I had to completely get rid of it and start over. Now, I have Yosemite installed, and the last time I partitioned my Mac, I was still on Mavericks. So maybe that could be it? I’m not entirely sure. I’ve tried Windows 8, and it said it isn’t supported on my Mac. I use a late 2013, 27 inch iMac with the latest version of Yosemite and Bootcamp 5.1.2.

Nevermind! Good news! I was able to install Windows 8 after removing my 3rd party RAM. Now that it's all installed, though, is it safe to re-install my RAM? Or will that just mess things up again?

What brand/model is this third-party RAM? I would suggest returning it and buying something which is reliable. OWC, Crucial, Hynix, Samsung, Elpida/Nanya are good reliable brands, but there have been reported issues with PNY, Kingston, Mushkin, Noname, etc.

Yep, one is Kingston and the other is PNY. Looks like it's time to order some more RAM and I'll just have to stick with 8GB until then. Really gonna miss my 24GB, though! Lol, anyway, thank you for all of the help, again. I'm just happy to have Windows back up and running!

One more question! So sorry, but I installed Windows 8 via EFI Boot. However, I've noticed EFI Boot is MUCH slower than installing it via regular Windows disk without it having to make an extra partition on the Windows disk. This normal?

Do you have a Fusion drive on your iMac? Was Bootcamp used to partition the internal 'disk'? I have an EFI boot of W8.1 64-bit on a 2013 rMBP with a PCI drive, and I cannot tell the difference between Windows and OSX performance.

Do you want to consider something like this on the Windows side - https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/blackmagic-disk-speed-test/id425264550?mt=12 to test disk performance? Is the disk a 5400rpm or a 7200rpm disk?

Thank you, I'll give it a shot, but I do definitely notice a differnece in performance since re-partitioning my Windows HD and installing via regular Windows Bootable USB instead of EFI Boot. I did read somewhere a while back that later iMac models already partition and install Windows HDs in EFI, and that EFI only uses limited computer components, like one GPU (doesn't apply to me in that case) or one core? I don't even know if that's possible, but it is moving faster now.

Bootcamp will not create an EFI partition. On older preUEFI models, there are Graphics and Audio issues with EFI, but 2013+ models allow EFI boot. on a 2013 rMBP and W8.1 work very well. Windows 7 still does not have 'full' EFI support on a Mac. An EFI installation will use all available resources. If the GPU drivers are not correctly installed, it may be an issue with a single GPU being used using MS default drivers.
