Q: safari iOS 8.1 freeze and slow

Hello,

i have same problems with ios 8.1 with my Ipad3. when the Google search shows me the results, the blue links does not respond when I  tap. Safari was as if frozen. I have to drag the page up or down so that the link becomes active again. Further the application is very slow. Today I tried iPad Air it was same thing !!!!

 

the problem persists since updating iOS8.0.0. I am very disappointed with Apple.

    Yesterday whilst I was in Asda (UK) I was playing with one of their iPad Mini 2's, and checked what the IOS was, and it was IOS8.1, the same as I downloaded on mine. The iPad Mini 2 in the store was flying, and amazingly quick. I could not check the Safari browser on it, as there was no wifi.

     

    Conclusion: One thing is for absolute certain, the IOS8.1 is definitely not for older devices, and my iPad mini (the original iPad Mini 1) is still so slow after downloading IOS8.1, and comparing it to the Mini 2 in the shop was like night and day - but of course the iPad Mini 2 has the A7 chip, which CAN cope with the latest IOS.

     

    Sadly, it seems that Apple is absolutely, and purposely slowing down older machines with their updated IOS.

     

    That is fine, as technology moves forward, BUT why would Apple destroy people's older devices when they know full well that they will struggle to load the latest IOS, and have performance issues. Not only that, but Apple are rubbing customer's noses in it by refusing those with older models to revert back to a WORKING IOS.

     

    "Now that you have downloaded the latest IOS on your older machine, you can do nothing about it's poor performance.... we know you could go back to a working IOS, and we have it, but we will NOT let you do that....why?.... because we want you to buy a newer model and increase the profits of our company even more.... simple as that....welcome to the Apple prison..... (hehe)..."

     

    It is almost blackmail, and maybe ethical (or is it....I wonder!), but it is certainly not moral.

    They should definitely let us revert or rework an update just for ipad2's.

    Yesterday mail froze and I had to reboot it.

    Overt coding. This was well thought out.

    Class action would be a thought.

    GEn1 minis with ios8 installed are still being sold at discount price. I wonder how many are returned as faulty, or maybe Apple dont really care?

    lucky the ones that has the safari only slowing and freezing. Mine crashes all the time. Just opening it and leaving there for a few seconds and it crashes. Apple today is total ********. I sorry but it really seems so. Nothing working and even system included software crashing all the time. Just like windows was in early 2000. My ipad and iphone 6 plus are totally useless in net surfinf at the moment as the safari crashes all the time. Of course chrome is an option but come on... Apple's own browser fails!?! fix it and fast Apple!

    Maybe what's needed is a crowd funded court case to MAKE Apple release older ios's especially for this purpose, I would be willing to make a donation as my original ipad mini is now slower than the cheapest tablet out there, and there is no way I'm buying another one

    That's what's so annoying, Rob. The original iPad mini, which I also have was a fantastic device before this update. And now? Like you say, it reacts now like  £50 budget tablet. Not exactly what you expect from an Apple product...

    These major bugs in ios8 are a consequence of Apple management dominated by marketers and not the technical people. apple is an enormous company and quite capable of producing a bug free product, it only requires adequate time and money to produce such a product. However, Apple have decided to save money and limit testing and then sit back and let the users find all remaining bugs. This is a calculated gamble by the marketers in the hope that not too many customers will be affected to the point of switching away from Apple.

    Imagine the consequences if aircraft, guided weapons and nuclear power station makers adopted a similar policy!

    I just want to know how to most effectively escalate this up the Apple management chain. My iPad with Retina Display (which isn't that old a machine) freezes in Safari and several apps that used to work before frequently have to be terminated and restarted to get them to work.

     

    In more that 30 years of working with computers as both a software developer and an application user I never had this bad an experience with a product release. I go all the way back to DOS, Windows 3.1, the Mac SE and worked in Unix and Linux as well. Nothing this bad - ever. Why isn't the media giving this more attention?

     

    And it's worse on my iPhone. iOS isn't compatible with my 2007 Prius and I can't place hands free calls anymore. If I want to continue to place calls out of my car while driving I have to dump my iPhone 5 and get a non-Apple product. Prior to upgrading to iOS 8 I placed 75% of my calls out of my car. This is effecting my ability to be responsive to my customers and generate revenue.

     

    Apple is offering no time table for a fix and is refusing to allow us to revert to iOS 7 as an interim solution.

    I too have a background in programming and systems design, going back to second generation mainframes and assembler language,  And it seems lessons we learned the hard way have been forgotten. The OS must be isolated and protected from user applications, assume nothing, test and test again, then when you are sure all is working, testagain. Testing can require more time and effort than the original design and programming. Apple needs to turn down the marketing hype and concentrate on solid old fashioned project management.

    That is exactly my frustration. My ipad cost the best part of £600 three years ago and until IOS 8 worked well. Now it feels like a cheap clone tablet in terms of it's performance. My desktop PC is many years old and works well after OS upgrades and updates.

    No point in getting frustrated. We need an action plan. Nothing will happen until we have an advocate inside of Apple. How do we go about finding such a person? I'm in California and will see if I can find someone who has the authority to make this happen.

     

    in my opinion customer support is giving us the run around. I don't think they have a solution to our problem(s) and are simply throwing time consuming trouble shooting procedures at us without any quantitative basis that the procedures will work. Things like wiping your machine clean and reinstalling are just common sense but are time consuming and may not produce results.

     

    Need to cut to the chase and find out who the real movers and shakers are who can solve this problem.

    Mine has sped up a little. I have an ipad2, 16GB, WiFi only. 4.1GB available, Bing Search

    I got rid of chrome and don't use the cloud.

    I did the hard restart 3 times. I also took off anything I don't use anymore, like old games.

    Safari still loads a little slow, but no where near as bad as it did before.

    My friend uses an ipad1 on and off, chrome keeps freezing it.

    Chrome (google) has so much tracking going on in the background that's boggy.

    I still have the facebook app but will probably bag it since I don't use it anymore.

    They're tracking intensive as well.

     

    I know you should be able to use whatever apps you want, but it's not working out that way.

    We need a downgrade.

    Same here, AudioVideoEditor. I too have many years of software development experience and was shocked not only at the unbelievably shoddy quality of iOS8 and its subsequent updates but also at the nearly total blackout (in the technical publications) of the horrendous problems they caused. Were they (ARE they) afraid of Apple's clout, advertising dollars, and legal staff? The few articles I saw treated the problems they listed as no big deal.

     

    It was...IS...a big deal. As is Apple's dirty trick of refusing to allow users of older machines to revert back to iOS 7.1.2. Truly unbelievable, and in my opinion, still open to a class action lawsuit for deliberate damages.

    some more BIG issues came up... i ordered stiff online and tried to pay using online payment. As soon as i made the payment, safari crashes (did this in 5 different shops)... Sounds like nothing? well yeah, except that the money was debited from my bank account but not shoving in the online merchant! So i have lost now approximately 900 euroa because of this and no one knows where the money is. Ios 8 is a total disaster! Never should have updated... And the next devixe will definately be something elae than i-product!
