Wise thinking. Why take it back to get it fixed or replaced. Maybe a fairy will come along and sprinkle some pixy dust. If you don't want to go back then you'll have to live with it.

Dec 2, 2014 1:45 AM in response to pogsterby bidz1977,the only "pixie" dust it saw was if any was in my friends hand. no more apple and yes love to live with it....you're sarcasm is appreciated though, you must be a proctologist

Jan 1, 2015 12:11 AM in response to Undereqby joshua274,This can happen if u replace the screen or the home button is replaced or unplugged. Try to reset your iPhone and setup and a new iPhone don't restore from back up and it should work. If it still fails then your Touch ID sensor is bad

Feb 2, 2015 1:44 PM in response to Mahfuz787by jrabenson,ok, so just to make sure the obvious is covered...
I just got a 6 and was setting it up for my wife. I entered her passcode so the phone would be like her old one, and then I thought, heck, I'll add my fingerprint since you can add more than one.
So I did. At least I thought so. Finished the setup, but...
It failed. Same error message as everyone else. That's when I checked this forum to see what else others might have done. I fiddled with it, checked setup, etc. The likelihood of hardware failure was low because it is a brand new phone.
Then, just because it seemed like something else to do, while scanning these replies, I went to "Turn Passcode Off". I entered the passcode I just set, then went back into "Add a Fingerprint..."
The 'Add' worked, and it asked for a backup passcode. It's all good.
So, since I didn't see this suggestion in any of the replied I scanned:
Turn off your passcode and try setting up the Touch ID fingerprint again.
Good luck.
