Q: Resound Linx

I would like to start a new discussion centered around the Resound Linx and Apple iOS devices.  Let me give you a little background about myself and the Resound Linx.  I have been using hearing aids for almost 8 years.  In April I purchased the Resound Linx 9.  For the most part I have been very pleased with the product, but there have been issues where I have been frutstrated at times such as the loss of the Bluetooth connection and the quality of streaming.  I am also very fortunate as my audiologist has given me the Airlink and software to make adjustments to the Linx.  From this standpoint I would be very interested in other Linx users and their experiences.

Thanks.

Most of you complaining about poor streaming and other issues are perhaps missing the even more important problem with the new Bluetooth standard that Apple and Resound are promoting: Wifi interference.  It's a huge issue and is keeping your streaming from working properly.

I have had my Resound Linx for a month and I may be the only one who has tied the new Bluetooth to the main problem of wifi interference.  I have personally met with Apple AND Resound reps and have demonstrated the problem on iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6+, all running the 8.1 update.

Today I sent 2 painful  hours with the audiologist and the Resound Rep while they both fumbled the issue repeatedly. They even replaced both of the hearing aids.  I asked the Resound rep a simple question: When and IF a fix comes down from Apple and/or Resound would he guarantee that I will get the fix for free, even if it means Resound has to give me a new version of the hearing aid.   He would not commit to anything.

INMO this is all a big fiasco. It doesn't work as advertised. It really barely works at all and in such a way that it not only is not a convenience to the hearing impaired but instead a huge frustration and disappointment.  I'm returning mine for a full refund.  I'd expect a class action suit will soon follow.

I'm not sure WHAT the issue is but I have had several calls that I simply lose the ability to hear. The other party can hear me fine but my audio goes in and out. I got my linx 9 from the VA and I'm about ready to go to the audiologist there. She was very positive about the link 9 and, since I am a heavy Mac user, it seemed like a good fit for me. Resound tech support tells me my solution is to just select one of the phone audio options when I get a call but that doesn't cut it.

GNResound Thank you for your response.

That is the first time anyone from your company has acknowledged the problem and for that I am extremely grateful.

I have constantly been asking my audiologist at Amplifon what the issues are but she seems to take the attitude that the hearing aids are really good and the fact they have problems with an I phone are irrelevant. She is hopefully arranging for me to see the ReSound rep but when I last spoke with ReSound they told me it was an Apple issue and no-one seemed interested that they were selling a product that simply did not perform in the way it was advertised.

I do not want to give in and just ask for a refund as the truth is they are extremely good hearing aids....I just want consistent good performance rather than having to constantly try to reconnect them and wait forever for my phone to connect when someone calls me.

Unfortunately the number you have given me is in the US and I am based in the UK.Could you give me the number of someone in the UK I can talk to please?

Regarding the new App I think I have the most up to-date one but it would be good if ReSound issued App updates in the same way as others..is this likely to happen in the future? An interesting observation is that you have improved since the first issue but unfortunately the connectivity is still intermittent.

It would also be good to have a forum or a "Questions" section on the ReSound website where these issues can be addressed.

    Many thanks again

Just a small point, but my ReSound SMART app is updating automatically via the app store, like all my other apps.

First off, I am using Enzo 9 HAs which are a close cousin of the Linx, same technology etc. I agree these are extremely good hearing aids. I started a 30 day trial and after one day, my wife, who is extremely technology averse, especially spending money on technology, declared they were worth it as I was hearing her so much better than with my recent NHS hearing aids, which were better than my previous private Specsaver ones.

I have had two sessions with my audiologist to change settings. The first session was to change the sound shaper setting from default soft to strong, which reduced the "tstststst" on sibilants, but I realised later was also reducing intelligibility slightly, so at the second session she put the sound shaper settings back from strong to moderate, and I think this is probably optimum.

Streaming sound quality is not as good. Intelligiblity of streamed sound (phone, audiobooks, TV Unite, remote mic etc) is better than what I have ever had before, but the same "tstststst" sound on sibilants does not make it a comfortable experience. Reducing the treble and boosting the bass improves it a lot. The streaming sound quality settings have to be changed separately from the microphone input by the audiologist, and she did this at my second session, and it is better, but not there yet.

I have now bought the HAs and was "given" the TV Unite 2, Remote mic, and Remote control for "free". These accessories work well and have no pairing problems with the Enzos.

My audiologist is very supportive and interested in the iPhone/bluetooth problems, of which I experience some, but not a lot she can do. She does feed back what I say to ReSound UK and at my first session a rep came over from Manchester and we had a two hour session experimenting and adjusting.

Hi ljohnQ, you can call 01869 352800 and someone in the UK can help you through any of the issues you might be experiencing.

When we update the ReSound Smart app, there is a notification in the App Store to update. Is there something else you think might be helpful?

    Thank you for your input!

I have been using the Linx 9 for nine months now. Overall I am happy, but streaming music and the short life of batteries are still an issue. I just never seem to have a crystal clear, "digital" connection when I try to listen to music. It is so bad that I have given up on trying to stream, but I still love the hearing aids overall. I have found that Walgreens brand batteries last the longest (about three days). I also have found myself needing to adjust the volume, but I couldn't due to my phone being dead.

I am really trying to get ahold of the software used by my audiologist to fine tune. I have been to the doctor's office five times trying to get them perfect, but you just can't accomplish this in a small office with the door closed. Can anyone hook me up with the software?

I have also had both hearing aids replaced and my iPhone replaced trying to fix the connection problem regarding streaming music, but neither replacement fixed the issue. I also never use the app, for it never works properly or fast. I just triple click the home button for adjustments.

I have handed my pair of Linx 9s back to the audiologist, and am back to using my 8 year old Siemens aids. After nearly 3 months of use with various tweaks, firmware updates, IOS updates and adjustments to the correction settings, I found them less functional than my old aids. The issues that prompted this were (and Apple first as this is an Apple forum):

    Smart wear functionality:

    1. Unreliable connectivity, including navigation apps that would refuse to connect and then do so on one side only unexpectedly and without my input after 1 hour (result..... got lost).
    2. Distorted voice on phone calls to the point of being unusable (confirmed by audiologist).
    3. The whole modus operandi of streamed voice on calls is dysfunctional. You till have to reach for your phone and talk into it, and once there may as well listen in the usual manner (why one has the aids in the first place, No?).
    4. Streaming music: really a joke. Appalling sound quality.
    5. And if streaming did work, if I want to stream my Bluetooth TV I cant but have to have (buy) another Resound piece of kit.
    6. Battery life using any streaming activity is reduced to the point of being unsustainable. I either had to change both batteries every 2 days, or find I had to change one or the other every day, and the low battery warning gave me at most 15 minutes.
    7. Inability to change volume without a connected iPhone. I am sure I have heard that the button can have a dual function of both programme and volume but my audiologist insists the latter is not possible.
    8. Functions which either do not work or are pointless: Location profiles, remote mike, lost aid tracking. Technology in search of a use!

    Audiological function:

Now this may be a deficiency of the audiologist, but as there is a captive market in this neck of the woods its impossible to tell. I have a very typical age related bilateral high frequency dropping loss. My issue is with social speech, TV, cinema etc. These aids did not help this issue, and certainly inferior to my old Siemens aids, though again the Siemens were set up by a different audiologist. Certainly the Links were superior in comfort, wind noise blocking and feedback suppression not to mention being ascetically superior.

Given that, in spite of being a technology junkie and reasonably literate in such, I will avoid any other "made for Iphone"aids eg Starkey. I need something with which I can sit at a quiet dinner table and converse, not something that fails to make the tea!

DW and I are shopping for her first HAs and for replacements for my 2008 Starkey Zon, which work pretty well for me. Thank you for your input and your excellent concluding post. I recommend the Starkey Halo thread to all. Starkey seems to have solved more problems than ReSound. We have friends who love their ReSound Linx, but I haven't had time to really interview them. Again, thanks.

I recently bought a pair of Resound Linx 2 9 hearing aides. Is there any way I can get these to work with my macbook pro? I have tried the bluetooth in the system settings, and it does not pick them up. Is there a special adapter I can get to make it work? Is there support coming for this in the future? This would be an extremely beneficial feature for those of us in offices that listen to webinar sessions etc.

    Thank You,

    Chris

Get the GN Resound Mini-mic, pair it with your hearing aids, and plug it in to the headphone socket of your MBP and it will transmit direct to your hearing aids.

You need the ReSound Smart app to be able to select the mini-mic on your hearing hearing aids,

The mini-mic is a fantastic device...I use it for a lot more than my MBP.

I upgraded from the Lynx9 to the new Lynx2 (not sure I understand the naming convention).  Anyway, the new Lynx2 provide much better sound quality and I like the customizable settings that can be saved in Favorites.   However, I'm disappointed with the connectivity to my iPhone 6.   It drops in one or both ears frequently (music and phone), even with new batteries.   I live in an urban area and I'm left wondering if it's interference related.   The only other objection I have is the quality of the streaming music -it's extremely tinny.    It is nothing even close to the sound quality from earbuds.

Perhaps it's the audiologists expertise, or perhaps it's the hearing aid limitations.    I'll never know for sure since the workings of the hearing aid industry is a big black box hidden behind a curtain somewhere.

Regardless, I will keep these because when used as hearing aids the sound quality is amazing to me.

If there is a solution to the bluetooth connectivity issues, I hope they find themselves my way.

I would more info on how you can adjust the sensitivity.  I hear so much near me like clothing rubbing against clothing, my dog nails on wooden floor (it's killing me) and even when I walk.  Plus I tried wearing them playing golf and the sound of making contact with the golf ball was way to annoying.  Anyone have any suggestions?  I just got them from the VA two days ago.  I believe I might have to go back for some sort of setup adjustment.
