Dec 9, 2014 4:22 AM in response to amfox34by Killaakuma,I may have a fix for everyone. I updated my iPad 2 a day or so ago, and now run into the same issue as everyone else. Try this, open ibooks, go to the book you want, now hit the options button turn the brightness up, then flip your iPad to portrait view now turn the brightness all the way down, then flip back to landscape. This sould fix any issues. atleast its what works for me. This is a stupid fix, but what do we expect. We dont have iPad air's or i phone 10s so why should we have any technical support for old out dated tech that they dont care about anymore.
Let me know if this helps.

Dec 9, 2014 11:41 PM in response to amfox34by Clement Singarajah,I fixed it as follows. I usually read in landscape position in night mode and have the same bug.
If I rotated the ipad to a portrait position BEFORE darkening the screen in night mode to the lowest setting, the whole screen darkened as it should. I then rotated the iPad back to landscape mode and the screen remained evenly dark without a line. If I adjusted the screen brightness after the line problem occurred, the problem did not go away by rotating the iPad. When I say rotate I mean physically turn the iPad.
This fix worked even in daytime mode.
I have to change the screen brightness while the ipad held in portrait position to have a uniform screen brightness.
I only get the scrren bug issues when I am in portrait orientation.
I am using an iPad 2 with iOS 8.1.1 and this bug occurred with the newest update
I hope this helps the rest of you.

Dec 15, 2014 7:37 PM in response to amfox34by 12GaugeTommy,I had posted the same issue months ago to have zero replies. this bug is annoying since I need the brightness on the lowest setting or else my eyes get strained quickly.

Since I updated my iPad mini to iOS 8.0.2 when reading a book within the Books app there is a slightly opaque black rectangle covering approximately seventy five percent of the screen. This happens when within the apps options the brightness is set lower than about a third of the maximum brightness and less. I personally like it set to the lowest brightness possible; so how do i fix this?
Here are some photos.
iPad, iOS 8
