If your phone is still not connecting to cellular service, I would recommend you use the troubleshooting information from the following article, named:
If you see No Service in the status bar of your iPhone or iPad
Follow these steps, testing after each.
- Tap Settings > Enable Airplane Mode, wait five seconds, then turn off airplane mode.
- Restart your device.
- Remove the SIM card. If the SIM card is damaged, worn, or bent, or if it's too big or small for the SIM tray, contact your carrier for a new one. Then reinsert the SIM card.
- Check for a carrier-settings update: Connect to a Wi-Fi network, tap Settings > General > About, and install any available carrier-settings updates. If you can't connect to Wi-Fi, connect your device to a computer that has iTunes.
- Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
- Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
- Contact your carrier to check for any network or account issues.
- Restore your iPhone.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Take care,
Sterling

Dec 9, 2014 7:51 AM in response to pemafrombhutanby benedettofromgrosseto,Hello Pema,
in which nation did you buy the sim card insert in the iPhone?
Some iPhones are locked to work only with local sim card.
For example, if you buy an iPhone in the USA it will work only with USA's sim cards.
Please let me know.

in fact, the mobile network needs some time to check if the IMEI's your mobile is registred to work in your country.
When the network finds an IMEI not enabled to work in that country registers it in a black list.
To use the iPhone you have to ask to a telephone operator in your country to unlock the IMEI.
In Italy (my country) they ask some money to do It.
Pls let me know.

Dec 10, 2014 1:23 AM in response to benedettofromgrossetoby pemafrombhutan ,Hello Benny,
When i bought the iPhone, i went to the telephone operator and purchased the sim also and for few hours my phone worked and the next day when i starred the screen it gave "No Service", i guess it has nothing to do with the IMEI since it had worked for few hours.
i m planning to return back the iPhone to Australia. In my country (Bhutan) we even dont have apple support store also.
