Q: Yosemite printer driver for Canon Pixma IP3000

This is not so much a question as a solution to getting my old Canon Pixma IP3000 working again after upgrading to Yosemite.

Although the printer is listed, when I wanted to add it I found no software for it from Apple. Phoning Canon they also said they have no software for the IP3000 and Yosemite. To make a long story short, after much trial and error trying out other drivers which were listed on "choose driver" I found that the IP4500 driver can be configured for cassette feed AND duplex and works on Yosemite. Hope this helps someone else to keep some of the older products going in our throw away society!

Could you please explain to me how to download that driver. I tried many times and one got an "exe" file, i.e. not for a MAC.

    Thanks.

Here is a link to the v10.67 driver mentioned in the other post.

With regards to the duplex operation, are you selecting to perform this function via the Duplex Printing & Margin menu in the print dialog but it is failing to print two sided?

Well I downloaded and installed the 10.67 driver but still can find no option for duplex printing anywhere. The canon site said that it was updated for Mountain Lion but made no mention of Yosemite.

I just installed that driver on a 10.10 VM and also found that there is no Duplex Print & Margin menu - just Margin.

I then installed it on a 10.8 VM to be sure the lack of the menu was not due to using the 10.8 driver on 10.10. However I found that even on 10.8, there was no Duplex Print & Margin. So it would seem that duplex printing was not an option for the iP3500.

I then checked an alternate driver suite called Gutenprint and added the iP3500 Gutenprint printer. It also did not support the ability to print duplex.

But when I added another printer, this time using the Gutenprint iP3000 driver, there was the ability to print two sided from the Layout menu. So then I thought it might be worth checking if the Canon iP3000 driver also provides a duplex setting, but the last supported OS for this model was 10.6 so I did not even try to install that old driver on 10.10.

Here is a link to the Gutenprint driver if you would like to try that.

I also tried the Gutenprint driver but it does not support duplex printing with Yosemite.

I guess I'll have to upgrade my printer or just print odd and even pages.

Thanks for your help and interest.

So is the Two Sided setting under the Layout menu disabled with the Gutenprint driver?

Yes I'm afraid duplex printing with the IP 3000 and Yosemite id not possible.

The Two Sided setting does not even exist in the Layout menu.

I also am trying to print on my ip3000 after upgrading to Yosemite. I don't know much about computers, so forgive me if I'm missing something obvious, but I downloaded and installed the given link to the 10.67 driver, turned my printer off and back on, and tried printing the document again, but I am still having the same problem (printer is not connected because there is no software). How do I get around this?

Welcome to Apple Support Community, mollyo10!

...tried printing the document again, but I am still having the same problem (printer is not connected because there is no software). How do I get around this?

You might need to add the printer...

    1. Go to the Apple Menu
    2. Select System Preferences
    3. Click on the icon Printers & Scanners
    4. The left pane is titled, Printers with a list of the printers that your computer can print to. If there are no print devices listed...
    5. Click the + (plus) button at the bottom of that pane
    6. A dropdown dialog appears listing printers on your local network. (It may take a minute or two for your printer to appear.) Select your printer when it appears in the list, then click Add.
    7. Your printer should now appear in the Printers list

    Try to print

    PRINTER DRIVERS FOR IP4500

Similar problem - just purchased the latest  Macbook  with Yosemite OS 10.10.3 and have an old but reliable PIXMA ip4500.

I managed to find and successfully install printer driver for the Canon Pixma ip4500 and printer on this site.

    Printing successfully now.

Go here (it will self-identify your OS). http://www.canon.co.uk/support/consumer_products/products/printers/inkjet/pixma_ ip_series/pixma_ip3000.aspx

Reselect OSX 10.6 as your OS and download the iP3000 CUPS file for 10.5/10.6.

It will install and will allow duplexing to occur. It does so under OSX 10.10.

In your System Preferences Printers & Scanners with the iP3000 attached, delete your iP3000 and then add it back.

It should self-select the newly installed iP3000 driver.
