Q: Ricoh MP C2500 not printing after upgrading to Yosemite

I have a Ricoh MP C2500 (installed on my network in the office) that was working perfectly in Mavericks before I upgraded to Yosemite.

I was using the drivers via the Linux Foundation (Foomatic, Ghostprint, PXLmono) and everything was working perfect.

It seems that there has to be an update for these drivers for Yosemite.

The official driver from Ricoh doesn't work, nor has it ever worked because I don't have the PS module for the Ricoh.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hey Mark,

I'm happy to help, if I can. Here is the procedure I used to add the printer:

    1. Go to System Preferences
    2. Select Printers & Scanners
    3. Select the "+" symbol in the lower left hand corner to add a printer
    4. In the Add window, select IP
    5. Enter the IP address of your printer in the Address field
    6. Ensure the Protocol field is set to Line Printer Daemon - LDP
    7. In the Use field, use the drop down list to select Generic PostScript Printer
    8. Click the Add button

Once the printer was installed - this driver let me successfully print, but there were no available options - I was able to successfully complete Matt's procedure. Good luck!

    God bless,

    Bill

I added the printer as suggested but when I run Matt's script, the other printer's IP is still shown as the printer chosen for modification. Not quite sure what to do at this point.

    Hey Mark,

Just out of curiosity, which of your printers has the higher IP address?

    God bless,

The 4500 has the higher IP. The 2500 that seems to have added correctly with the script has an IP of 192.168.0.60 which is the IP that's still present in the script even after I re-added my 4500 to my Printers & Scanners. The 4500 has an IP of 192.168.2.221 which is ultimately what I now need to reflect in the script Matt provided. It's a tid bit confusing, but hopefully that made a little bit of sense!

    Hey Mark,

I'm sure Matt would be better able to help you resolve this issue than I - I'm not a programer. I would attempt the following two procedures in order to determine (or at least try to determine) what the problem is:

    1. Uninstall the 2500 and see if the procedure will work for the 4500. If that works, then it would appear Matt's code may require modification to work with more than one device - again, I am no programmer and am making assumptions that may not be correct.
    2. Uninstall the 4500 and then reinstall it using the procedure I sent you earlier, only this time select the correct pxlcolor driver for your device in the Use field.

Hopefully one of these procedures will shed some light on what the problem is. Good luck!

    God bless,

    Bill

Under Printer & Scanners in the System Preferences:

"Kind: RICOH Aficio MP C4502 PS" - Not PXL as it should with the script.

This is the crux of the matter.  The C4502 is using Ricoh's PostScript driver (PS) rather than the pxlmono/pxlcolor (PXL) driver from OpenPrinting.  There is another problem that needs to be addressed.  The pxlmono driver package does not contain a PPD for the C4502.  The third (possible) issue is the IP addresses you cited.  They are for two different subnets.  If the printers are physically located on two different networks, this should not be an issue.  You may have one printer at home and another at work.

Here's what you need to do:

    1.  Download the correct PPD from OpenPrinting

    2.  Open the PPD in a text editor and remove the line

    *cupsFilter: "application/vnd.cups-pdf 0 foomatic-rip"

and save the file.  Make sure that you keep the .ppd extension.  Don't use .txt.

    3.  Move the modified PPD to /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/  That is the Library at the root of your hard drive and not the Library in your home folder.

    4.  Add the printer in System Preferences and choose "Ricoh Aficio MP C4502 PXL" for the driver.  Be sure to use JetDirect/AppSocket for the protocol.

    5.  Run my script to modify the printer for use in Yosemite.

    Matt,

Your instructions worked like a charm. The script prompted me to modify both the 2500 and 4502 printer this time instead of just my 2500. I was able to print on both printers today. Thank you!

Also thank you Bill for your suggestions as well.

    Hi Matt,

    after installing

    - foomatic-rip-4.0.6.230.dmg

    - gpigs-8.71.dmg

    - samsung-gdi-1.816.2.dmg

and running your script, my samsung ml1410 is printing.

But i have a problem with the printarea.

The printer output starts 5mm from the top, but 20mm from the top of the outputfile is missing? It does not matter what i print.

If i print this document (or anything else) from my windows pc the printoutput is correct (the printer has no defect).

    Any tips for me?

    Hi Matt,

I hate upgrades and they usually don't bring anything new for me, but after a lot of programs did not work anymore on Snow Leopard, i decided move to the latest version of OSX...... I expected in this time an age Apple would have tested things a litle better! But no, my printer did not work anymore!

Your solution worked flawlessly on my Hp Officejet G85 when connected thru an HP Jetdirect 300X on my network. However it did not work for me when direct connected through USB.

Thank you very much! I still have liters of ink for this workhorse, (there so easy to refill!)

One small thing, I get the Ricoh name in the printing screen, instead of the Hp printer name.

Even if you fix this i am not gone change it, to afraid to break it again.

Thanks you very much for this patch--worked like a charm.  I had installed the Linux Foundation (Foomatic, Ghostprint, PXLmono) drivers and selected the PLX drivers for a Ricoh MP C4000--it appeared to work but the printer did nothing as someone else mentioned (I am using Yosemite).

    Hi Matt,

I work in a large office that shares a networked Ricoh Aficio MP 6001 copier/printer. It previously worked with the PXL driver until I upgraded to 10.10. I've tried everything in this thread, but when I print, the printer sees the file and blinks as if getting ready to print, but never delivers the goods. I get no error messages, it just won't print.

Would you please help me troubleshoot this?

    Thanks!

    Vaughn
