Nov 26, 2014 1:29 PM in response to goldfilmby Linc Davis,Why is the firewall turned on? It serves no purpose if you're on a private network behind a router.

Nov 26, 2014 1:37 PM in response to Linc Davisby goldfilm,I use the computer in many different wifi networks... sometimes at home, sometimes at work, at a café...
You raised a good question: who needs a firewall in Yosemite?
And I don't have an answer...

Nov 26, 2014 2:54 PM in response to goldfilmby Linc Davis,Please open the Security & Privacy preference pane and select the Firewall tab. Click the lock icon to unlock the settings, if necessary. Click the button marked
Firewall Options...
In the sheet that opens, the box marked
Automatically allow signed software to receive incoming connections
should be checked.
If the applications that you're having trouble with is on the list above that checkbox and is blocked, change the setting to
Allow incoming connections
If the application is not on the list, add it with the same setting.
If it's already on the list and already allowed, delete the entry, then add it back.
Click OK. Test. If there's no change, ask for further instructions.

Nov 26, 2014 10:16 PM in response to goldfilmby Linc Davis,The firewall won't recognize an application that's installed your home folder. It would have to be installed in the system-wide Library folder and protected by permissions. I can't tell you how to make that happen because I know nothing about this particular software. My advice is to turn off the firewall except when you really need it. If no sharing services are enabled, you never need it.

Nov 26, 2014 10:26 PM in response to Linc Davisby goldfilm,What do you mean by "won't recognize"? The application is already listed in the Firewall and in the Safari Security Preferences. It's marked as "always allow", and it even has a version (under Safari preferences/security/plug ins/website settings): DIRECTV Player 4.2.
The problem is that it doesn't register the fact that it's "always" allowed. I had to click on "Allow" every single day again and again. Then it works. But a couple of hours later, if the computer goes to sleep, I have to allow again.
I understand that to make it simple I should turn off the firewall. But I want to understand why this is happening only with this plug in. Do you believe that if the plug in were installed in the system library folder this wouldn't be happening?

That's what I mean by "won't recognize."

I don't know. I do know that since it's installed in your home folder, it will happen. If you have any other questions about the DirecTV product, contact its developer. I've never used it and I'm not even sure what it is.

Nov 29, 2014 12:07 PM in response to Linc Davisby goldfilm,I contacted DIRECTV (the satellite tv provider) but they say they can't do anything to install the player (to watch online) in the system wide library... can I simply move the folder or would i get a problem with permissions?

Dec 9, 2014 12:56 PM in response to goldfilmby bmintzer7,I have this same issue and it is really annoying. I saw your post on the Directv website but couldn't log on to respond there. So keep on plugging for an answer and if I can figure anything out I'll post too.

Dec 11, 2014 9:25 PM in response to bmintzer7by goldfilm,I'm giving up... I guess I'll turn the firewall off while I'm at home, and turn it on at work and deal with annoying messages

This seems to have worked!
http://forums.directv.com/thread/11175687
Open a FINDER window, then on the MENU BAR, click on GO while holding the OPTION key. this will display your LIBRARY and click on it. Now find "internet plug ins" and delete "PlayerPlugin.bundle"
At this point I don't care about watching Directv on my Mac, and to not see that pop-up it is worth it.
