I have exactly the same problem that blondebabe69 posted.

Basically, I followed all the instructions given online:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dx7UJD9JsRo and

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 and unfortunately, it does not work. I tried it countless times already, but to no avail.

The iTune messages given is not what was described or demonstrated.

It does not say "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode".

Instead it prompted "to allow this computer to sync info from your phone.. ". There is only a "Continue" or "Cancel" option. Pressing Cancel does not work, because it just make iTune appeared like no phone / device detected.

So when you press "Continue" another messge pops up and says "to allow access, please repond on your iPhone".  How do you response via the iPhone when it is disabled, and nothing I press on the iPhone meets this 'response' required.

My only next option appear to visit the repair center directly... as there is no solution given that seems to work.

I've Iphone 5 and is disabled, I connect it to the iTunes using recovery mode, then software downloaded and when verifying Iphone error occurs, it says "the Iphone "Iphone cannot be restored, an Unknown error occured 2(and sometimes 3, 2003, 2002, 2009)", I search for the solution... then according to the solutions I updated my iTunes, used another computer, reinstall windows(I am using windows 7-32 bit), My friend is working at a mobile repair shop, He says that it is a hardware problem... If anyone know about the solution please reply.

    Hello,

I came on here trying to solve the same problem. I had my daughter call me from her 5c, I am not sure if it was the fact that it was a call from an iPhone, or just a phone call, but that unfroze my screen, and all is working now.  I hope this simple thing works for you guys!

This worked for me.  One clarification that may help others:  When Clyde77 says 'turn device off' he means hold the power button (not the home button) until the screen says "Slide to power-off", then slide to power off and wait for the little white 'lines-circle' to stop spinning and the screen to go completely dark.  Then continue the steps as listed.

As I went throught the steps for 'restore' it warned me that it would be to factory settings and all data would potentially be lost.  However, one step in the process asked me to restore from back-up and identified the device as mine and everything turned out fine with my pics, music and contacts intact.

The whole process took forever for the hub computer to copy everything back, but just set it and forget it and check back in a couple of hours.

    Thanks!!!

I have an old iphone 4 that I cannot remember the passcode for.  I have gone through the restore for 18 minutes.  At this time, ITunes is telling me to respond to my iphone to continue.  I'd love to but I don't know the passcode and it is still asking for it.  So frustrating   Can anyone help.

I'm having the same problem with my mum's iPhone and computer at the moment. Thanks dwmusic; if you hadn't mentioned that I'd be getting into a right state by now. How completely ridiculous that you're expected to ignore that message. Sure Apple make good stuff but there are also some extremely annoying flaws, and people like Mr Finch, who seem to defend them regardless, strike me as rather arrogant and complacent.

It doesn't happen only if you put a passcode on your iPad, by the way. I have my iPad plugged into my computer, and had just finished backing up my iPad (thankfully) so that I could get the latest software update. During the update, I was prompted on my computer to "allow access" to my iPad. I clicked continue like a good Apple customer, and a new window popped up in iTunes that says "To allow access, please respond on your iPad..."

My iPad is stuck on the screen with the Apple logo and the progress bar (which hasn't moved in over an hour, by the way).

So, don't be so rude when you don't actually know what's going on. It is, in fact, a software glitch of some kind, and has nothing to do with her device specifically (or all of the other 140 people that have responded to this post alone saying they've had the same problem with their devices). I'm hoping that eventually the update will finish, and the iPad will give me the option to "respond on my iPad" so that I can allow access. I would agree with the suggestion from dwmusic, that iTunes should let you know that you can't actually give it access until the update is complete.

Great ,that would work if you had a graphic on a screen but what if you don't.I have the same issue,I purchased the phone used,I am in contact with the original owner. They said they removed the I cloud account and deactivated the account in I tunes.I have a 5C that has a black screen , no graphic at all.I connect to I tunes it says Do you want to allow computer to access and I click yes it then goes to To allow access, please respond to your Iphone.

Now remember I have no way to access the touch screen it is totally dead unresponsive.

    Thanks

Ok I hope this gets around,to all that have run into this issue i have a fix,at least it worked for me.I had the exact same issue and I had the blank Black non responsive screen, I asked Apple and called support all told me the same thing, could be a firmware issue or there was no real way to diagnose it because there was no image for them to see short of sending it in for their in house diagnostics. I repaired my phone by swapping out the digitizer and now everything is back to normal. No longer get that nag, can't tell you why it does that ,ask you to respond to a screen that you can't do but it does work. You can purchase a new digitizer all over the web and of course at Apple store. Small investment and for me it worked the first time, very simple to do.Good luck all
