Q: Launchpad: Adding Applications

How can you add an application to Launchpad which was not downloaded from the Mac App Store?

This has to be possible because I see applications contained in it that I've downloaded from other sources, and I did nothing to put them there.  For examples: Microsoft Office, iCab, GraphicConverter 9, Reunion 10, Canon Utilities. iBank 5.

iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

    Launchpad should include any application in the Applications folder. Or you can select the application you want to add and simply drag it over the Launchpad icon in your Dock.

    I just discovered how:

    1. Open Launchpad;
    2. Use Launchpad's search box to search for the application you want to add.  That will open a window containing an icon of that application;
    3. Down-click on the icon until it begins to "dance";
    4. Drag the icon into the place in Launchpad where you would like to keep it.

    That's it.

    FYI: I tried dragging the application's icon from the Finder and dropping it onto the Launchpad icon in the Dock, but that didn't work for me.
