    Try this:

There should be is a tiny blue tooth icon in the lower right corner of the screen.

    Touch the icon

Touch iPhone so check mark appears.

    Touch elsewhere on the screen

Siri should now be able to "hear" you through the iPhone Speaker.

This worked on my iPhone 6 with OS 8.1.1

TThank is for the suggestion but that didn't work. I'm 100% certain its a software issue. Everything worked until the update.

My siri was not able to hear me (except when plugged in "hey siri" worked) and my voice to text from the keyboard was not working.

I switched my "silence" switch to on (I leave it silenced most of the time) and suddenly everything started working even after I switched it back off.

    iOS 8.1.1

    Hi Matt,

I'm using iOS 8.1.1 and my mic works fine when I make calls.

But Siri won't work. It can't hear me talk.

But it DOES work when I plug in a headset (normal, not a Bluetooth one).

Do you know if Apple is fixing this bug?

    Thanks,

    Paul

I've tried everyone's suggestions in this thread. I also just upgrade to 8.1.2. No joy at all.

Yes, I have submitted this feedback to Apple (their dropdown list doesn't yet include 8.1.2 though)

Frankly this is just one annoyance too many. I can't believe I've been sitting here contemplating dropping the cash on an upgraded device - the QA is just going down and down, truly I can't justify the spend on what's fast becoming a "so-so" device.  One of these days, I'll bite the Android bullet.........

I was just about to ask if since doing the 8.1.2 update if it fixed it, thanks for the post.

PEOPLE PLEASE KEEP REPORTING THIS TO APPLE.

Same issue here. iPhone 6+ with newest update - 8.1.2 (12B440) - and the issue is still not resolved.

Siri works over Bluetooth and with the earbuds attached but can't appear to hear me.

On the other hand the internal microphone works in other applications - e.g. Google Chrome speech recognition.

Tried resetting all settings, resetting network settings, connecting and disconnecting bluetooth...

Still not luck and getting extremely frustrated with Apple.

How do I post a bug to them?

Alright - I've dealt with Apple support on this issue - THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND THEY BELIEVE IT TO BE A HARDWARE ERROR.- SO THERE ARE NO PLANS TO FIX IT IN ANY UPCOMING PATCH AS YET!

After trying a number of troubleshooting measures - even a complete reformat to factory settings - the issue was still present.

    I sent Apple my iPhone 6+ to investigate the problem (I chose not to go through my provider, Vodafone - I figured that would only take longer and they would be a worst case scenario if needed!) - they had my phone 2 days before sending me a brand new (unlocked) phone with the following statement;

"Thank you for choosing AppleCare Service. To ensure the higest level of quality and reliability, all work has been performed in an Apple approved screening facility. After thorough diagnostic testing, it has been determined that a replacement iPhone (enclosed) is necessary."

So - there you have it folks. I got a new phone and it's working perfectly so far. I suggest you contact Apple directly to sort this out.

I hope ye still have your previous phones - you'll need it for about a week!

Well that's great for you.  If you look 4 or 5 posts up you'll see that didn't do it for me, and I'm sure countless others.

My visit to the Apple Store today was rather brief - the Genius I spoke with seemed to know about the problem, and told me if I was feeling so inclined, I could reset everything and "Start from new" on my phone, otherwise I can come back for a real appointment next week and ..... well, she didn't say they could actually DO anything then, to be honest.

Still deciding if I really want to start from scratch.

aaaaand..... resetting and starting anew did NOT fix the problem. Siri still doesn't want to listen to me.

While one can understand why Apple tech support always recommends this as a first step -- in order to isolate the problem -- in this case, it is unlikely that it will solve the problem (it didn't work for me), and it will take considerable time.

Siri has been working since I upgraded to 8.1.2, and I’m hoping that this will continue.

I didn't really expect it to work.

But get this.  I've now reset and restored using my backup. Didn't work.

Get onto Applecare chat while it continues to restore. Explain everything. Set up another appointment at the genius bar.

On a whim, I try Siri. Of course, she works.

Dude on the chat is a fricking genius!!!! (/sarcasm)
