Q: Problems After update to iOS 8 on ipad 2

Hello community,

please pay attention when you update your iPad 2 from iOS 7 to 8. The whole useability of my iPad broke down and their are many problems using my iPad now. Everthing is really slow and I always need a restart to connect to my service provider with 3G. The following problems occurred on my iPad:

  • Safari is working realy slow and sometimes brake down
  • mail is also realy slow and most of the functions sometimes don't work or hang
  • 3G connection fails anytime you switch on the iPad and needs a restart

TO Apple:

please improve this version of iOS and submit your update asap, otherwise my iPad is not usable anymore and lose me as a customer.

thx.

I have an iPad 2 and an iPhone 4S. I upgraded the iPad 2 first and had problems so I decided to leave the iPhone on iOS 7. I certainly don't regret that. My iPhone is working splendidly but the iPad is causing me grief. I agree that there is always going to be a downside to hanging onto a device rather than replacing it every year or so. However, if Apple had put out some kind of statement cautioning owners of older devices to think twice about installing iOS 8, then I would not be so frustrated. Surely they must have tested the new OS on a range of devices and been aware that there would be signifiant performance issues for owners of older devices.

It's the lag that annoys me most. It's intermittent and mostly with Safari. I type something but nothing appears on the screen and then suddenly everything appears in bunch a second or two later. Then it'll be fine for a bit. Even more annoying is the way in which the device becomes unresponsive to touch. Agan this is mostly with Safari. I click on a link and nothing happens, I click again and again ... nothing. Then suddenly it's responsive again and I find myself rick-rolled into random click-bait. That's enough to make anyone grumpy. I also have the problem with Safari crashing and the application just disappearing. But my battery life seems okay.

But, being constructive about this, it's clear from these posts that I've not done enough yet. I installed iOS 8.1.1 though iTunes but I didn't do a complete wipe and reinstall. So I'll give that a shot (following instructions earlier in this list).

Thank you to everyone who contributed in the past few days. It's been very helpful.

All the same things here, but I have an ipad3. I Have not wiped it yet, because I started using my 4 year old android tablet again, which works fine. I am just over the whole experience. And there are mixed experiences with others who wiped. Some it worked for, some it did not.

Same problems with my mini...after I updated to 8, the device got stucked in the re start loop and I had to reset it.  I had problems setting up and now the iCloud account is blocked and I don't know how or where to go to un block this account.  I do not have the restoration key either.  I opened a new iCloud account, but the system doesn't accept it to un block the device.....this is really a mess....you should re open the online technical support,...out of the United States, there are not so good technical stores to help us....what I should do to get the restoration key to re activate this iCloud account....I shouldn't upgrade to IOS 8...the 7 was working good.

I would love to know your outcome after the clean wipe of your device.  It didn't fix mine...and I did it about three times.  I totally agree...Apple should have posted a warning or not even offered the update to IPad 2.  I am just like you...iPad 2 is not good.  Never put the update on my iPhone 4S and it is still good. And I know some were helped by all the suggestions here and that is great.  I am still not happy with my device...and I have tried everything...so no need for anyone to respond to me with all the same suggestions again.  Keep us posted.

If Apple cared about their customers, in my opinion, they would resign the 7 os, and let us downgrade, but they won't. They don't want to have to support it any longer, but they aren't supporting us now, so what's the difference? They would have far less complaints/issues if they let us go back to what worked. This has solidified my decision to never buy another Apple product. They know this does not work. They did it on purpose. They want us to buy new, and I will not be doing that.

Any idea how to unblock the iCloud account to restart the Ipad? Where the **** I can get that restoration key?  I love Apple devices, but you have to be careful with updates.  Same story with Yosemite...makes computers slower and a friend couldn't even starl it after he update his Air.

At some point, you chose a way of getting you that restoration key. Typically, it's texted to another device, but there are also provisions for emailing to another of your devices. If you don't remember what recovery method you chose, I'd call Apple or make an appointment. But I'd also start checking your other devices or email accounts for messages or emails that might contain what you need.

If you have enabled Two-Step Verification for your Apple ID, you need two of the following:  Password, Trusted Device, Recovery Key.

Do you have a valid password and a trusted device?

I think a BIG part of why they don't allow going back to iOS7 is the roll out of iCloud Drive which requires iOS8. IF, you chose to activate iCloud Drive, there'd be no way to access all your data from iOS7, I believe. I suspect that, given the range of technical abilities that their users have, just trying to determine if someone upgraded to iCloud Drive would open a huge Pandora's box. Me? I'd give them the option of going back, but putting a HUGE disclaimer telling them that if they do, they'd lose all access to iCloud Drive data from that device. For folks who have more than one Apple device that would still be running iOS8 or Yosemite, that would not be a problem. But for those who have a single device or no access to iCloud Drive, there'd be a LOT of data that would be jeapordized.

Again, this is just speculation on my part, but it's the only reason I can see for them not permitting a downgrade. Perhaps if they developed a quick and dirty app to allow you to move your data back from iCloud Drive or iCloud Photos, they could do it...

Hello Does any one know if it's worth it to instal IOS 8.2.2 on an iPad 2 ?

I Had a lot of trouble when downloading iOS 8 and I did not want to then down load 8.1.1 when it Was released.

On this discussion I see it did help 8.1.1, but now the one that is available is 8.1.2

should i I install it on my ipad 2?

    Thanks

I did  not get a notification of a new update  for my IPad 2.  But, if there is one maybe it will fix the glitches I still have. I'll wait for the notification and then read posts before updating.

I got the update notification this morning. It doesn't look like it is addressing any of my problems so, I'll wait a while before updating.
