Q: Logitech C920 - no video (10.9.5, MBP 13-inch, Mid 2012)
Hello,
I'm having issues with my new Logitech HD Pro C920 Webcam (model number V-U0028). When I plug it in, it's recognized as a webcam: system info shows:
==================
HD Pro Webcam C920:
Product ID: 0x082d
Vendor ID: 0x046d (Logitech Inc.)
Version: 0.11
Serial Number: 7A***A5F
Speed: Up to 480 Mb/sec
Location ID: 0x1a120000 / 4
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): 500
==================
It is also seen in Photo Booth and Skype as a valid, selectable camera - but in Skype it's black, and in PB it either spins, or shows what was last on the built-in iSight camera. I've installed the Logitech Camera Settings app, and it seems to see a camera there but without any way to see the video I can't be sure it's working properly.
A few other clues. Quicktime Player sees this as a camera but when I try to do a New Movie Recording, I get an error dialog "The operation could not be completed." This error message corresponds exactly with this error in system.log (via Console):
Dec 13 19:42:24 Phils-MacBook-Pro kernel[0]: USBF: 6992.491 AppleUSBEHCI::Found a transaction which hasn't moved in 5000 milliseconds on bus 0x1a, timing out! (Addr: 4, EP: 0)
I get the same system.log error when I plug in the camera with FaceTime running.
Finally, neither iMovie nor a trial installation of Final Cut Pro see the camera at all (File => Import Media, in the Cameras list on the left).
I doubt this is a "missing driver" issue (as it's meant to be a UVC-compliant webcam which would be natively supported by OSX), but I'm a bit flummoxed as to the problem. Logitech support is sorely wanting - they know Windows but they and the broader community seem to be at an absolute loss. "Re-install your computer" was the answer I got.
Any ideas on what I can try, or what further information I could provide to assist in this problem?
Thanks!
:-Phil
