Q: Calendar: changing recurring event doesn't "bite"

I have a recurring calendar activity, due every Friday. It contains some comments.

This week, I wanted to add a line to the comment, but only this week. I did this in Calendar on my computer, and selected "this event only". Then I was susprised not to see the change in my iOS devices. When I returned to the computer, the comment was unchanged from before: my new line of text was not there.

I repeated this twice with the same (non)results. Apparently there's something buggy in the Yosemite version of Calendar for Mac (8.0 2026).

Now I have added the text line in my iPad instead, and woohoo, it appears in all my devices including the computer. And other calendar events added to the computer's Calendar show up nicely on all devices. So there's nothing wrong with my syncing. The problem seems to be only when I try to modify one single event in a line of recurring events, it won't "bite".

Anyone else with the same experience?

I have experienced the same problem after upgrading to Yosemite. I have a repeating appointment for my work.  This appointment repeats every three days.  I can make changes "to this event only" via iphone, ipad, and the icloud website without issue.  However, when I use calendar 8.0 on my iMac not only does the change not "bite" but it reverts all occurrences of the repeating event back to the original title erasing all "event only" occurrences.  This change then pushes to icloud an removes all "this event only" items from the repeating event.

Very frustrating.  I did not have this problem with the previous operating system.

Anyone know how to fix this issue?

    Thanks for your help.

I have the exact same problem with repeating events. Not syncing to my other devices from my mac. Then reverting back to the original entry - without any of the edits to the specific events (individual days). Very upsetting. Spoke to the apple help desk last night  - and they did not say that they had heard about this and were unable to help me fix it. Help!

I said it before and I say it again: if Apple were my own company, I would monitor these forums to pick up people's problems and try to remedy them.

Same here. Have the exact same problem with repeating events like you all and Sarahrachel.  Not syncing to my other devices from my mac. Then reverting back to the original entry - without any of the edits to the specific events (individual days). Very upsetting indeed. It actually messed me up and I missed some credit card payments because of this bug!! Not acceptable.

I am having this same issue. I have been using recurring events for several years on my iPad and iPhones. I only recently got an iMac (end of Oct 2014). A couple of days ago I updated my recurring event on my iMac instead of my usual iPad or iPhone edit. Next time I looked at my calendar I saw that every recurring event had reverted to the original entry minus all of the edits "this event only" I had done over the years! All my individual edits to each event are gone. Other than this I see no other issue with syncing...

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Or you can use your Apple ID to register with this site and go the Apple BugReporter. Supposedly you will get an answer if you submit feedback.

I did report the problem to Apple, the same day I started this thread.

Funny though, that the "Calendar" channel on the feedback page turns into an "iCal" channel after a few steps. Which might mean that any reports might end up either in the wrong place or in a low-priority desk drawer somewhere, since iCal is outdated.

I have a long-standing repeating event, and MBP with Yosemite would not allow me to change the date of the repeating event on the computer. After looking in this conversation, I did it on my iPhone and it took. Apple needs to fix the Calendar app on the computer to be able to edit recurring events.

    Thanks, K2

I posted on here like a month ago and I've been troubleshooting the whole time. I've also had many many support calls with Apple Care. After trying several things including signing out of icloud on all of my devices, deleting my original recurring event and creating a new one, reinstalling Yosemite  and waiting for and installing the new Yosemite update 10.10.2 my apple care rep suggested I bring my mac into my nearest apple store genius bar. I'm not sure what they can do that the apple care rep can't. It's really annoying because it's not easy to schlep a 27" imac through a mall. If anyone figures out how to fix this issue I'd love to know. I'm guessing we just need to wait for a Yosemite update that resolves it. In the meantime I guess we just live with less functionality. FYI I have also submitted feedback.

Did you (or anyone) ever find a solution, or was one published with any recent update?

I am having the same issue, trying to modify a single event in a recurring event... I ended up disabling iCloud calendars on my Mac out of frustration since syncing works fine from my other devices, and most of my updating occurs on my iPhone..

I now use iCloud.com instead to manage events from my Mac, and really open Calendar on my Mac just for synced Google Calendars, oddly enough, and a few other shared calendars. Not optimal by any means.

My iPhone and iPad have iCloud calendars enabled, plus Google, etc, and all works and syncs well there.

I haven't re-enabled iCloud calendars on the Mac, but curious as to if it now 'works'....

My issue was corrected with the latest update to Yosemite 10.10.3    I have re-enabled iCloud calendars on my Mac, and all calendar syncing/updating works as intended from each device thus far.  Trying to modify a single event in a recurring event now appropriately syncs from Mac Calendar to iCloud and iPhone/iPad.

I have this problem too (OSX 10.11.6). A recurring event ran every two weeks until March 2017 and I wanted to change it to end in September 2016, and Calendar simply would not accept the change.

I logged into icloud.com and changed it there, no problem. The update rippled through to my Mac and my phone pretty much immediately. Not a fix, but a pretty easy workaround.
