Q: Cannot add me.com/icloud as an account in gmail
From gmail I used to be able to check my <username>@me.com email and send responses using it.
This worked fine until (I think) I enabled two-factor authentication.
Now I can no longer send me.com email using gmail and, moreover, when I try to change account settings in gmail (to use smtp.mail.me.com) I get this error:
| Authentication failed. Please check your username/password. [Server response: 535 5.7.8 Bad username or password (Authentication failed). code(535) ] |
I am able to log on to iCloud with my me.com account - so it is not the username or password.
Is anyone able to successfully add iCloud mail as an account in gmail and, if so, do you have two-factor authentication on?
Any help appreciated!

So after a few weeks I finally solved this myself:
I have two-step authentication turned on, so to add my account to gmail I needed to "Generate an app-specific password", which can be found here: https://appleid.apple.com/account/manage/security
After you give the App a name (e.g. gmail), it gives you a password which can be used in gmail to finish account set-up for your icloud account.
Hopefully this helps anyone else trying to set this up...
