Q: Broken headphone jack! 3.5mm dillemma. Help. Please.

Hi.

So my headphone jack has broken off clean into two pieces.

The trouble is the 3.5mm jack protuberant is now stuck inside my iTouch and due to the amazing self-locking mechanism of earphone/headphone ends, it will not come out, whatever I do.

Tweezers have not helped, neither has a small magnet.

I'm glad I gave up on the magnet for I have now come to know that the hdd is right next to the earphone socket.

Anyway, I need help.

How do I get that broken-piece out of the socket?!

Please. Help.

Many thanks, in advance.

Just had the same problem, tried pen idea, not good, did not want to use super glue bad idea , then i remembered i had a pair of watch makers tweezers, had it out in a minute, had to bend the end outwards a little to get in through jack hole and be either side of jack head.applied pressure pulled it out, this is definetly the best way to do it DO NOT USE SUPER GLUE bad idea.

Yesterday I was doing FaceTime and I had the Apple head sets in when my cat got up, knocked my iPad off my desk and broke the jack inside the iPad head phone slot.  I tried tweezers.  I read about pens bt none of the pens I have fit in my iPad 4th generation.  It began to look like a trip to the apple store.

My wife and I are separated and she still has a lot of junk in here.  In the cup where I found the tweezers I found 1 single all by itself bobbie pen.  She never used them so I was surprised.  I had already removed the plastic top ring, this was a stab in the dark.  I slid the CLOSED end of the bobbie pin down the side and looped it over the metal prong attachment.  There was nothing to clip on to except the male part of the ear plug.  By pulling to the side I'll be darned if the pin started to come out. I pushed down again, pulled, and pop, out it came!   I did some damage to the iPad's back cover, some scratches from the tweezers but it worked.  No glue.  Just a girls bobbie pin.   They can be so useful.  Good luck to anyone else who runs into this issue.  And keep the **** cat off your lap while using facetime with headsets on.

Thank you!  This did it.  No glue, no nothing.

Genius bar can't help, they want $200 for this ipad mini (Gen 1) and I paid $199 during the special sales @ Walmart.

They said to trade in mine and add $200.  You can buy a new one at Sam's for $237.

    They are crazy!

Anyway, bend the tip of the push pin, dig in, twist and pull out the broken piece.  Everything is working.

I went to Apple today, and they want $199 + my current ipad mini for a replacement of a GEN 1 iPad mini.  They are CRAZY!!!

I used a thumbtack and bended the tip, and digged and pulled out the broken pieces of the headphone jack.

    Everything is working now.

    Thank you moorem85 !!!!!

    I tried the Q-tip trick:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1QCXWsFuJ0 - no success

I found the grip stick: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/nightek/gripstick-the-broken-headphone-plug -removal-tool but for $25 I thought I'd try something else

I used nail clippers and it came right out.

We have a tool specifically designed to easily solve this problem without having to disassemble the device, use glue, drilling, or any other unsafe method. It also works for any mobile device, tablet, computer, or any other electronic equipment that has a 3.5mm headphone jack. The name of the tool is GripStick, and it was successfully funded via a Kickstarter campaign. Watch it in action here:

Thanks for all your comments. I used the middle of a bic pen, dabbed super glue on it and rammed it in  -I felt it click over the end of the broken bit of the jack... Waited 2 minutes, yanked it out. Viola! Thanks again!

Fantastic! I can't believe I got that thing out of there. My supervisor will be quite pleased we will have a completely working computer rather than a no good because the district wasn't going to pay for a new logic board. Thanks.
