Q: Disable built in trackpad

I have a mid-2009 macbook pro running mavericks (10.9.5) that is reaching the end of its life. The trackpad has started to move the cursor, execute multitouch gestures, and click things while nothing is touching it. I bought an external magic trackpad which works great except for interference from the possessed built in trackpad. It sounds like other people have solved similar problems by disabling their built in trackpads through system preferences, but I'm not finding an option to disable the trackpad under mouse or trackpad. Does anyone know of a solution for my model/OS? Thanks!
