Dec 17, 2014 3:15 AM in response to ella70by Mac SE,Sigh, that's not good news. I thought this only affected the early 2011 macbooks, not the upgraded ones.
Core2Duo is slow, and I need 17". Pity the gaming laptops can't run OS X worth a ****.

Dec 17, 2014 3:32 AM in response to Mac SEby ella70,ONe thing I did was delete my flash player. I read that it caused problems. Also, don't use an external monitor and never shut it off, just put it to sleep. I've been doing this for 6 months now, successfully.

Dec 29, 2014 3:04 PM in response to ideotequeby Zardozzz,These laptops were cookers. I had one, I know. The internal components have to suffer over time, plus there were numerous overheating issues right upon launch with this one as you may remember which an update was supposed to address.
I love these laptops, but... I buy a new one every year. They really should last longer than a year or so, but what are ya gonna do. That's all you get.
Dump 'em quick before they die!
Feel sorry for the poor buggers that spend top dollar on my used ones, no matter how perfect they look on the outside.
My latest, a Late 2013 rMBP seems to run a bit cooler... but it will be replaced right after the warranty expires this coming fall. Sad, but true.
Not worth the risk of holding onto, Time Machine makes this yearly upgrade a snap!

Dec 29, 2014 3:28 PM in response to ideotequeby Zardozzz,I don't keep these laptops any longer than a year. Forget Apple Care, who wants to be bring their laptop to the shop all the time, even if it's covered?
I usually don't run into any problems in the first 12 months of ownership, then I dump 'em, right after the warranty expires — except for that first generation rMBP I had — what a dog.
Keep 'em looking good, save the box, you'll get good money for your one year old MBP, and a lot less headaches : )
Sometimes I feel like saying something to the unsuspecting buyer for my beautifully well cared for laptop in it's original box with stickers and all that.
But I don't.
