Q: problems with amd gpu on early 2011 macbook pro

hey

been having problems for the last couple of weeks on lion os and now mountain lion and need some advice

i'm guessing its the graphics card a amd 6750m as when it swithches to the gpu the screen glitches and freezes, ive tried the apple hardware test and it passed that

then i did a gpu test with a novatech bench test and crashed nearly straight away

it's nearly 2 years old and out of apple  warranty but i'm sure under EU law it should be 2 years

whats my options

cheers

I Would not get a 2011 MBP. The late ones are having problems as well.

Well, you can probably delete all the AMD drivers for even better stability

Sigh, that's not good news. I thought this only affected the early 2011 macbooks, not the upgraded ones.

Core2Duo is slow, and I need 17". Pity the gaming laptops can't run OS X worth a ****.

ONe thing I did was delete my flash player. I read that it caused problems. Also, don't use an external monitor and never shut it off, just put it to sleep. I've been doing this for 6 months now, successfully.

My Macbook boots only when i delete the AMD/ATI driver, but after this deletion Yosemite is not useable. You can watch how Mac OS X builds up the screen and the colors have 8 bit.

i have late 2011 quad core i7 and thats ruined since i put maverick on it (17") at work we have a 15" early 2011 and thats showing signs of same problem. my new battery arrived today so should get my mac back friday, fingers crossed it works for cost of new battery and not 800 for logic board as Apple refuse to acknowledge 20000+ people with the 2011 model...apple are wankers i would never buy another one

don't go for 2011 build, there are over 20000 people with a fault with it but apple won't admit there is any fault at all...

So I'm confused. Are you saying both macbooks have the problem?

He also said replacing the thermal paste with something better like Tuniq TX4 will drop the temperature significantly.

These laptops were cookers. I had one, I know. The internal components have to suffer over time, plus there were numerous overheating issues right upon launch with this one as you may remember which an update was supposed to address.

I love these laptops, but... I buy a new one every year. They really should last longer than a year or so, but what are ya gonna do. That's all you get.

Dump 'em quick before they die!

Feel sorry for the poor buggers that spend top dollar on my used ones, no matter how perfect they look on the outside.

My latest, a Late 2013 rMBP seems to run a bit cooler... but it will be replaced right after the warranty expires this coming fall. Sad, but true.

Not worth the risk of holding onto, Time Machine makes this yearly upgrade a snap!

I don't keep these laptops any longer than a year. Forget Apple Care, who wants to be bring their laptop to the shop all the time, even if it's covered?

I usually don't run into any problems in the first 12 months of ownership, then I dump 'em, right after the warranty expires — except for that first generation rMBP I had — what a dog.

Keep 'em looking good, save the box, you'll get good money for your one year old MBP, and a lot less headaches : )

Sometimes I feel like saying something to the unsuspecting buyer for my beautifully well cared for laptop in it's original box with stickers and all that.

    But I don't.
