Q: Canoscan 8800F (USB)

I am unable to use my Canoscan 8800F under Mavericks. It worked nicely under ML. Any suggestion? Thx.

Question for those of you using the MP Program to scan now...and forgive me if I'm looking right at it and missing it....but how do you get a 'preview screen' scan so you can set the boundaries/see what it will look like before it scans?  I actually like Canon's software vs. the normal image capture, but miss the preview screen.

    Thanks!

I had all these recognition and function issues on both my recent MBP and my venerable Mac Pro 1,1 hacked to 10.9.2.  It turned out I had downloaded the 64-bit version update while my old Canoscan 9950F is only 32-bit and this is how all the dysfunctionality began. Not sure whether 64-bit machines are more common currently but mine is 8 years old, forever in 32-bit land and can only trot!

This problem appears to have been fixed in Mac OS 10.10 "Yosemite."  The CanoScan 8800F now appears on the DEVICES list in Image Capture, and the buttons on the scanner face are working again.

I'm not absolutely sure because I've done several other things, but I think it was the upgrade to Yosemite that's responsible for it working again. I'd be interested in knowing if others also see this.

I am still NOT seeing the 8800F in Image Capture. I am on 10.10 and just made sure to download the latest driver I could find on the Canon website. (Version 13.9.2a, I believe, which indicated 10.10 compatibility.) I can still scan normally via the MP Navigator app, but it does not appear in Image Capture or anywhere else. Can you offer any possible tips?

Here is what you need...  I installed it yesterday on 10.10, rebooted and I'm back in business.  Scanner shows in Image Capture and I can use the buttons on the scanner to initiate a scan just like I could before 10.9.

Hi Aaron - just checking your TWAIN Bridge installation went OK and without problems - I'm a bit paranoid about malware...?

    Thanks.

Hi gsmetz - I'm having similar problems, but sadly not resolved by updating to 10.10.

I can scan via MP Navigator, but not within applications or via the buttons on the front of the scanner.

Slightly concerned at using TWAIN Bridge having read thread here - Twain bridge issue

    Hi, Pahu

A very interesting thread. It would be handy to use the programmable "one touch" buttons on my 8800F scanner, instead of the Operation Panel.

I note your comment there appears to be no 8800F ICA driver. As a long shot, I tried using the 9000F Mk II's 19.0.1a ICA driver.  The website states "it is a scanner driver for Canon colour image scanners." There appeared to be no 8800F prohibition. It installed ok, but as I anticipated, is ignored/incompatible with the 8800F. The buttons do not work. Image Capture still will not recognise the 8800F.

(Aside - previously I installed 8800F Scanner Driver 13.9.2a, MP Navigator EX 1.0.8 and MP Navigator EX 1.0 Opener. I understand the latter needs to be set up with Image Capture before using the scanner buttons. I am using El Capitan late 2008 8 GB RAM MB.)

I am aware some 8800F users have enabled the 8800F buttons by reverting to an earlier OS X. This is not a route I want to take.

    Any thoughts? Regards and thanks.

I see a few people still are having problems getting their scanner to work using Image Capture. I'm running OS X 10.9.5

This is how to link it back up to Image Capture.

Go to your System Preferences > Printers & Scanners

Click on the + a window will pop up and in the list should be the CanoScan 8800F click on it and hit add.

You will now be able to access and scan through Image Capture.
