Q: No sound in Bootcamp Windows 8.1

Hi.

I recently installed Windows 8.1 on my Macbook Pro, late 2011 model and ran the Bootcamp software. Everything works great except there is no audio playing at all, I have an X mark on the volume control, troubleshooting results in a 'A recent hardware might have not been detected' I have no Sound, video and gaming controllers' in the Device Manager, there is 'High Definition Audio Controller' in the Device Settings, though has a warning sign on it, I checked it and tried to update the driver but it says that it's the latest one installed. I had tried to re-run the Bootcamp drivers software and downloaded the Realtek audio drivers from the internet, but it still not working, though a Realtek High Definition Audio driver is now detected in the Device Manager, but not working, it has an warning sign too, When I try to run the troubleshooter it says that Realtek High Definition Audio has a driver problem.

Please help me, this is so frustrating.

5.1.5621 is the correct set for your Mac, try again with that, uninstall all previous driver sets.

After installation of Windows 8.1 last month, my iMac 27" late 2013 lost audio capability. NVIDIA seems to think the drivers are working fine. And when I attempt to re-install them, NVIDA failed due to 'unexpected issues.' I also perform work on the Windows side, while the Mac side is valuable to me as well. Any solutions by experienced individuals would be helpful. The inner workings and magic of computer science is foreign to me...

The first few steps from the Windows support site helped restore the missing drivers (I think). But still no sound. Still searching for answers.

I finally got to install Windows 8.1 without the previous issues, it seems that you are forced to install it through DVD for a reason, so after fixing my DVD drive I did it this way, now audio works fine. Now the issue comes with graphics, I have really unstable fps, even running League of Legends at minimum settings (the mac client runs at 60 fps with medium settings). Sometimes I get 80 fps, then it goes down to 30, I did everything I could to improve performance, disabled some Windows GUI features, I only play connected to the power cord, set Windows in "maximum performance", gave higher priority to the game's process in task manager, and also set graphic card settings to performance, but still I have this weird stutter.

I am still looking for the answer to this,  I don't understand why Apple or MS cant provide us with drivers for this - or a step by step solution, I have tried all the suggestions on all the threads I have found.

Mid 2001 Imac 27.  Be nice if an Apple Tech could answer on the forum ?

Not an Apple Tech, but is your iMac a Mid 2010, 27"?

Can you download the following when Windows is up and update to these drivers? If you have allowed Windows to update drivers, it can cause problems.

I have W8.1 64-bit on a 13" 2012 MBP, and the sound works as expected. What year/model is your Mac? There are differences in hardware, so there is no universal solution for this specific issue.

    Hello,

I have MacBook Pro 2011 and I installed Windows 8.1. When I tried adjusting the volume, nothing happened. Also, I had a red light on the side of my Mac where the headphones would normally plug into. Here is what I did to fix my problem:

When you first went to install Windows on your Mac you may have been prompted to download and install Boot camp 5.1 on your partition. After windows is installed, this Boot camp folder may be on your Windows desktop. Double click it to open it.

Next, navigate to the folder that says 'Drivers'.

In the Drivers Folder, search for the folder that says 'Cirrus'.

In the Cirrus folder, double click on the icon that says 'CirrusAudioCS4206x64'. You will see 4 icons that say this. I clicked on the 3rd one. It says it has 528kb instead of the 2067kb. Your numbers may be different, but you might want to go with the one with the less KB.

Double click so that it can install. Once installed, your sound will hopefully work!

    I hope this helps!!!

The port is a combined analog/TOSLink (Optical) port. The Read laser indicates that the microswitch which allows the analog/digital switch is expecting a digital connector. Uninstalling/re-installing drivers resets the card and allows it do detect the jack properly.

Do not install Windows 8.1 on EFI Boot, Using Boot Camp Assistant to install, in the FIRST time your Macbook reboots, DO NOT PRESS ANY KEY. Windows need install on BIOS boot in your Macbook. Sound will work.
