Q: where is my / renaming home folder?

OK. i just did a fresh install of yosemite and i am trying to get up and running. this is my first real fresh install.

can anyone help me find the HARD DRIVE that i am booting off of or the HOME FOLDER? also /how/ do i add folders or locations to the sidebar again?

i think i made some stupid mistake when doing the install which is that my hard drive is the same name as my HOME FOLDER but from what i remember in the past i can always change the name of the HOME folder as long as i do this early in the install and not wait a long time.

i can see the drives in my bay 3 and bay 4 in the mac pro but for some reason i do not see the drive in bay 1 which is my boot drive.

can anyone help please?

Mac Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

    In Finder…

    'Go Menu > Computer'.

That should show the disks on the system.

Your home folder should be in /Users by default. So see if you can find it within the boot disk.

Having the boot disk named the same as your home folder should be OK, it will only confuse you, not the Mac .

When viewing the disk in the 'computers' view you can rename it by highlighting the disk & tapping return.

See 'Finder menu > Preferences' for sidebar settings, it allows you to turn on the default items, also see the 'general' section it should allow you to turn on the option to show hard disks on the Desktop.

You can also drag items from any Finder window to add them to the sidebar.

Renaming user home folders can be tricky… Follow Apples advice, read it a few times before you begin.

Change your OS X account name and home directory name - Apple Support

It may be simpler to rename the disk? Tap return when it is highlighted to edit the name of the disk.
