iPhone Home Button Not Working or Unresponsive? Try This Fix
- If you have iOS 5 and later you can turn on Assistive Touch it add the Home and other buttons to the iPods screen. Settings>General>Accessibility>Assistive Touch
- If not under warranty Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $199 for 64 GB 4G and $99 for the other 4Gs (shipping not included)

There is not 6G iPod touch, The current version is still the 5G which was introduced over two years ago

You can also use asisstive touch to emulate a home button press. You can learn how to turn it on in this article. Home Button not Working?
