Q: How do I make facetime call from macbook to another's iphone?

Several Apple support articles say Facetime can be used either via wi-fi or cellular but do not talk about which may be in use at any one time.

Problem:  Overseas iPhone user Factime calls my Macbook (wi-fi on al the time) using my mobile (cellular) number - got message "Mark not available for Factime".  BUT I call another person on my mobile to fix Facetime, and during conversation I press Facetime camera icon next to overseas person's name and all of a sudden there she is on Facetime!!!! - she says she was just telephoning a 4th person locally on her iPhone and so surprised to see me. Meanwhile my mobile call still connected to tech friend.....  Overseas friend's mobile call likewise preserved.   What is going on???   (My phone is Android Galaxy S3).

MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1), wi-fi turned on
