Dec 17, 2014 5:57 PM in response to M9100009by 655,I'm not using track changes, but MS word is not functioning at all. The select text with highlighting by click-and-drag function was working very poorly, but now I have a reocurring problem that MS word stops responding to my keyboard. In any application I can type, but nothing happens when I type in Word. I have a brand new Mac, but this is making me question my decision. A functioning word processor is the single most important aspect of a computer! Is there any way I can return to my computer from before I upgraded? I use my computer for work and don't have time to restart and hope it works every 15 minutes.

Dec 21, 2014 10:51 AM in response to M9100009by normafromrichmond,I have performed just about every "cure" on this thread (including upgrading Office 3 or 4 times). Each one worked for a day or two. The latest adventure is finding that today Word no longer recognizes my keyboard strokes!
I need Word and Excel, but none of their formatting functions.
I need to read Word docs created in Windows; search and replace; sort; and save and save-as (doc to txt, xlsm to xls).
The combination of Yosemite and Office for Mac 2011 has turned my blinding fast Mac Mini into a pitiful plodding, crashing, limping misery.
I am reduced to performing these editing tasks on an old laptop and then moving the results onto the mini.
Apple, can you fix Yosemite?
Everyone else, is there some reasonable substitute for MS Office?
I can't live with the two of them together much longer.

Dec 21, 2014 11:15 AM in response to normafromrichmondby MACARONnotMACAROON,Hi,
I've been encountering post Yosemite problems everyday with Word. I am very annoyed, and as my PhD is due in three weeks, a lot of the glitches have induced early onset heart attacks.
Microsoft is still working on the bugs. Aside from updating whenever possible, you could call Microsoft's remote access line. There, they access your computer and can check your settings. I called yesterday and it is toll free: 1800 936 5700
As you know the folks at Apple cannot help you with this because it's a 'Microsoft problem'.
Bon courage!

Jan 8, 2015 3:42 AM in response to RasKeetby fred-5,This worked for me - I had tried numerous other recommended fixes to no avail - I was getting ready to do a reinstall of MS Office 2011 when I found this simple fix. Thanks.

Jan 19, 2015 3:26 AM in response to GrantusMby cherylfromalberton,Hi there,
I have also had these problems with Microsoft Word on Yosemite, it keeps crashing. I figure out about the document on full screen, but now, all my documents are opening in Compatibility mode, and I cannot edit or change anything. I have downloaded the updates and the service pack, but it says that it cannot be installed on my hard drive.
I need to be able to edit documents and I really don't know what to try.
Any assistance will be great appreciated

Jan 21, 2015 11:14 AM in response to Nic125by tes300,Fooled around with 2008 for a few hours. Called Microsoft. Microsoft was useless. Don't bother calling them. A few people I know told me that 2008 just doesn't play well with in the Yosemite sandbox. Finally gave up, ditched 2008, and loaded 2011. Works perfectly.

May 12, 2015 9:53 AM in response to M9100009by pattii55,I'll post this on this second thread about this same MS Word vs Yosemite problem, just in case it works for someone:
I am in the process of upgrading 19 Macs to Yosemite. I've seen this problem many times. I have fixed it in a variety of ways. Feel free to try them all.
1. Restarted, logged into Admin side, opened MS Word, worked fine, logged out, logged into User side, worked fine.
2. #1 did not work. Rebooted with Wi-Fi off, opened MS Word, worked fine, restarted normally, again worked fine.
3. #1 & #2 didn't work. Turned off Wi-Fi, plugged in Ethernet, restarted, worked fine.
3a. I noticed some people had Ethernet plugged in AND the Wi-Fi on. I turned Wi-Fi off, restarted with Ethernet only, worked.
4. A stubborn one, none of the above worked. It was a MacBook Pro. I took it home (decided to try it without the local companies spotty Wi-Fi the office has), booted it on my Time Warner Modem and Apple Airport Express, worked immediately in a normal boot.
5. Brought another to my house, #4 solution did not work this time. Rebooted in Safe Boot (Wi-Fi still ON). Started MS Word, worked fine, restarted normally, worked fine.
Seems once it is cured, it stays cured. No one has called me complaining it's crashing again. You can even put it BACK on Wi-Fi remove Ethernet and the fix holds.
It's one of the oddest problems I've seen. Not all fixes work across the board but so far one of them has worked on them, I have about 5 Macs left to go. #3 worked on the iMac I upgraded today. The Wi-Fi is often the common denominator in the mix though. Curious if these work for anyone else.

Jun 15, 2015 12:22 PM in response to pattii55by ihopeapplediesinafire,None of any of the fixes in this entire thread helped me, and I am desperate. Word continues to crash every time I open it.
Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Jul 11, 2015 2:27 PM in response to M9100009by GabrieleK,Hello.
I use Yosemite 10.10.4 and Word 2011. A few days ago my Word just stopped working, it opens the following tab when I press on any document to open it:
When I press Reopen, it doesn't reopen. When I try to open the document again, the story repeats and this table doesn't permit me open any files...
I have restarted the computer, updated Word, and tried some of fixes written in this blog, but it doesn't help. Anyone has an advice?
