Q: Problem: I'm not getting Facebook notifications

Hi

This is my first post on this forum.

I was waiting for yesterdays OS X Mountain Lion udpate, so I could finally get Facebook notifications delivered to the Notification Center in OS X. Unfortunately, I'm not receiving any of them after the 10.8.2 update. Could anyone help me with this?

I suspect that the problem may be connected with the OS X Facebook Developer Preview I've installed a couple of weeks before. Wanted to test it. The sharing to Facebook option in various applications was working fine. I was also able to post to Facebook straight from the Notification Center, but there were no notifications. I thought that it was normal, as probably the notifications would be enabled once the whole system was updated.

So I've downloaded and installed the 10.8.2 update via Mac App Store. Everything went fine, but the are still no FB notifications. I thought that maybe the problem was because of the Facebook developer preview I installed before. I've searched the web to find a way to uninstall it and I've managed to do that (using CleanMyMac). When I removed the preview I got rid of Facebook from the System Preferences (I couldn't re-add an account), but the account was still enabled as I was able to post from Notification Center and I had the Facebook friends list in the Address Book. So I decided to download the OS X 10.8.2 Combo update and istall it. After I've restarted my Mac I had all the Facebook settings back in the System Preferences, but still I'm not getting any notifications.

Does anybody have any idea what could be wrong?

I have an iMac mid-2007. Notifications from other applications are working fine, there is a problem only with Facebook.

Thanks for help

Regards,

Kornel

I have a 2010 mbp. To be honest I don't know, but I do get fb notifications now.

I shutdown my mac, held the shift-control-option keys and the power button down for a few seconds, took my fingers off then pressed the power button to turn it back on. (To make sure it worked I did do it twice.)

Asked my girlfriend to send me a fb comment and couple seconds later I got the notification.

Maybe reset your permissions and clear your PRAM might help too.

Resetting SMC worked for me too. I suggest the following sequence: 1) remove FB account, 2) shut down computer, 3) reset SMC (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964) and 4) add FB account once again.

    Hey,

This is my first post to this forum although I've been watching after it for quite some time.

    This is my status:

I had the facebook preview version installed and my notifications from facebook didn't work at all even after the 10.8.2 ML update.

I tried resetting my smc like it said in the manual and for the first time i got a notification from facebook after i sent myself a message from my dad's account.

I thought that the issue was finally sorted out but when i tried sending a message from my gf account i didn't get any notification.

    After that,

I restarted my computer and all of a sudden i got notifications for messages from 3 different accounts!

    In conclusion,

I have no idea if resetting the smc is the ultimate solution, it seems like it worked for me but I'm not sure it solved it for 100%.

Hopefully my experience will help others,

    enjoy,

    Tal.

Facebook notifications don't work on my machine neither.

What I did was to look at third party apps in the AppStore and now I'm using Glow for FB which is really highly reliable in terms of Facebooks notifications, although it's isn't real-time: it seems to check "only" every 15 seconds.

    Cheers

Did you modify the "hosts" file?

Maybe some value in this file is blocking notification center to receive data from servers. Some keygens or cracks modify this file.

I couldn't login with "iMessage" nor "Facetame" because some entry in hosts file was blocking some user verirication server. So I modified the hosts file to default values and tried again, everything worked ok.

Open this post to obtain details about how I did it

So... check if your hosts file has just default values:

    1. Open a Finder and click Menu Go > Go to Folder (or shift+cmd+G)

    2. Type /private/etc/

    3. Open the "hosts" file with Textedit, and compare values with the following default:

    ##

    # Host Database

    #

    # localhost is used to configure the loopback interface

    # when the system is booting.  Do not change this entry.

    ##

    127.0.0.1     localhost

    255.255.255.255     broadcasthost

    ::1     localhost

    fe80::1%lo0     localhost

I know the ans...first install os x mountain lion again above all your installation..then see the build it should be.. (12c60) then..update every thing..but dont install or update..."update for macbook pro and macbook air 2.0 "it is the culprit ...then hide that update..and remember to install offline version of combo and supplement update 10.8.2..ok..as sometimes when ur notification cetre not work then installoffline "combo and supp" updates...ok..REMEMBER NOT TO INSTALL MACBOOK AIR AND MACBOOK PRO 2.0 UPDATE...PLZ...AND USE UR SYSTEM...!! follow me https://www.twitter.com/ankit8083   https://www.facebook.com/ankit8083...good luck..DONT CHANGE UR BUILD..AS IF U WILL CHANGE IT THEN UR SHARE BUTTON WILL NOT WORK..IN NEW BUILD..!!And wait for apple to get new build after april 2013...but not download macbook pro and macbook air 2.0 update..which help in graphical improvements and some usb devices...!!

My Facebook notifications stopped showing up in Notification Center nearly four weeks ago, though I really only noticed for the past week or so.  I could *post* to Facebook from Notification Center and Safari, but wasn't getting any FB notifications.

Several times, I tried resetting PRAM and SMC, alternatively deleting and re-adding my Facebook account and was about to give up when I decided to look for your solution post again.  The only thing that fixed my notification hitch was deleting the databases you highlighted, though really, I only removed the more Facebook and Notification Center-centric ones.

    Library/Facebook/

    Library/Application Support/NotificationCenter/

    Library/Preferences/Byhost/com.apple.notificationcenter.plist

Logged out and logged back in and VOILA!  Facebook notifications working for me again!  Hope the rest of you having this issue find their resolution.

    Thanks Kallampad!!

    Question 2012

    But answers are not real.

This has happened to me too. I was not getting notifications. But I solve it.

    1. Delete Facebook account from accounts.

    2. Open keychain access and delete facebook passwords. (you can search with keyword: facebook)

    3. Open facebook.com, (website) log in -  safari will ask you save password say ok, and then will ask you to use this account for your mac (something like this **** ), say ok.

    4. Done! Now you will get notifications again. It probably happened because you changed your Facebook password.

I fixed this not by restarting my MBP or resetting the PRAM/SMC. Here's how I did it:

    • Sign off Facebook from Safari
    • Delete Facebook from Internet Accounts
    • Sign back on to Facebook in Safari
    • Safari will show a dropdown to allow Facebook to show notifications
    • Select allow and you're done!

    You're welcome.
