Q: iCloud photo library (beta)

Hi ive just purchased a 200gb i-cloud package for the purpose of backing my photos up in the cloud and freeing up space on my iPhone, Only thing is when i delete my photos on my phone it also deletes from the cloud too. Whats the point of that? I know  that if i was to have a drop box account i can back my photos up then delete the photos on my iPhone, Knowing ill still have a copy on drop-box, why cant i-cloud work like this? Do you think they'll change the way it works? I'm pretty sure most cloud storage works like drop box.

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.1.2, null

I would have thought that you have discovered that it doesn't. If you would rather operate a dropbox type account then you might be better with dropbox, if you want to continue using iCloud, you might try turning on the option to optimise the photos on your phone to save space.

Well Mr Winston Churchill and theirs me thinking you was dead! I have discovered that it doesn't do what i want it to, this is what i'm trying to get across, I've already turned on optimize but i didn't want to leave a copy on my iPhone the whole point of backing photos up to the cloud is so i can free space up the way apple have gone about it is bizarre. Maybe i will look at a alternative like drop-box. Thanks for your reply Mr.Churchill.

By all means look at dropbox as an alternative, but I think you are missing the point. iCloud photo library optimisation keeps your photos on your phone AND saves space. Optimised libraries that use 1 GB of iCloud space are reportedly using 20 MB in some cases, personally I think that much better than what dropbox is offering.

I think your missing the point Mr Churchill i don't want to keep the photos on my phone optimized or original  i want them backed up to the cloud and then be able to delete from my phone. If i have 10gb of photos on my iPhone i want to be able to store them in the cloud without using that space on the phone and drop-box box lets me do exactly that. I can access the photos just as quick from drop-box with the app on my phone.I like icloud but i want it to work better for me.
