Q: Screen saver problem. Yosemite

Help please. I keep having to go back into Screen Saver to reselect the iphoto album I want it to run. It works for a few cycles, or sometimes only once, then switches back to National Geographic slides. Grr.

Back up all data. Quit System Preferences if it's running.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:

    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost

    In the Finder, select

              Go Go to Folder...

from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return. A folder should open. If it does, look for a file with a long name that begins "com.apple.screensaver". There may be several such files. Move them all to the Trash.

Log out or restart the computer. Test. If the problem is resolved, empty the Trash and recreate your settings in the Screen Saver tab.

I am sorry to say that the screensaver issue has returned.

After following your instructions, it worked perfectly for 2 days until just a few minutes ago.

I'm going to try the procedure one more time.

    Frustrating...

Doesn't do the trick for me either, I am sorry to say. I wish Apple would do something about this. Yes, it is only a minor issue, but it is tell-tale about how Apple is interested in delivering quality nowadays ... Any time soon and we might as well switch (back) to Microsoft. At least, there, you expect things to go totally wrong ;-)

Well, I didn't have to wait very long after doing the procedure again this morning.

It just reverted back to NatGeo.

If you have any other ideas I'm all ears.

Thanks again Linc Davis for your efforts and have a happy Thanksgiving.

I had tried Linc Davis' solution earlier and it didn't solve the problem after a day or two.

I was hoping OS X update 10.10.1 - Nov 18 - would contain a fix but no luck.

As others have said, this is not fatal but it is a highly visible constant irritant that underscores flaws in the software.

    C'mon OS X team - fix the **** thing!

Yeah me too..I thought it was fixed.  It was ok for a few days but then the same issue returned. Hmm, is it ok to delete the Nat Geo folder?

Where does one find the Nat Geo folder? Doing a search for it, hasn't yielded any results.

OS X 10.10.1, with the Library folder displayed. Are there other hidden files I need to display first and if so, how do I do that?

    Thanks :-)

I found it with Spotlght- searched "National". But the path is Library>Screen Savers>Default Collection>1-National Geographic. I haven't been brave enough to try dragging it to desktop to see what happens.

Not working fo me either. Will this problem be fixed in the next OS X update? Or is there anything else I can do?

    Thanks

I was having the same problem.  I called into Apple and they were able to work with me (even though I was no longer under warranty) because the issue seemed to come up after I installed Yosemite.  They walked me through a bunch of things, but what ended up working was to reinstall the operating system.  If you do this, just make sure to do a backup to an external hard drive first, just in case.  I got through to someone who could help me by calling (800-275-2273).

I reinstalled my OS and that fixed it (I know, big hassle).
