Dec 24, 2014 1:38 PM in response to John Lambertby a brody,Usually this indicates a problem with launchservices. Many system repair utilities actually damage launchservices. If you installed Mackeeper, it is the worst of these, and it often requires third party removal directions:

The only maintenance a Mac needs is backing up to at least two distinct places.
