Q: Mac Mini (2012) HDMI losing sync (blank screen/snow)

Looks like my mini has the HDMI issue that others have reported on the macrumors forums as well as here.

Mine exhibits the blank screen/snow issue ONLY when the HDMI port is used.  This happens with HDMI->DVI adapter and also with pure HDMI cabling.

With the same screen, mini and DVI cable this does not occur.

This is a fresh Mini 2012 Server i7 model.

Do I need to report this in an official capacity somewhere (this is only the second ever apple hardware fault I've encountered in twenty years).  Should I just be patient for a possible fix (as I don't need the hdmi port

Same here, 2014 Mac Mini - Samsung Syncmaster P2450 connected with MDP->DVI adapter. Almost everytime after hibernation snow on the screen. I'm a loyal Apple customer, but this is not acceptable! Apple please fix that.

I have hdmi handshake issues now too using a Denon receiver connected to my Epson TW9200W (5030UB in USA) and Mac Mini. Using the same receiver on the Panasonic tv = fine, but when trying to send the signal to the projector, I get handshake issues. Other sources show no problem at all. This is with a Mac Mini dating from 2011.

    Count me in too,

today on 1/25/15, after sleep, When i space space bar to wake up my Mac mini 2012 2.3 Ghz Quad Core i7, 16 GB RAM running Yosemite, the whole screen is colorful snow for 2 seconds and then my screen turns back to regular desktop.  I am using dual Monitors but only the one using direct HDMI (Samsung) is affected.

This also happened on december 2014 before when i was logging out of my standard user and the monitor with direct HDMI (Samsung monitor) turned into colorful snow for 5 seconds.

Does this means my hardware or intel 4000 HD GPU is damaged?

Or is this a common problem with the Mac mini 2012 2.3 Ghz Quad i7 Model?

I am using a Samsung S27D360 27" LED Monitor via Direct HDMI which is erratically experiencing the colorful Snow Problems twice and an AOC 2436 24" LCD via mini display port to DVI which works fine.

So I'm experiencing the same problem. It just started a week ago; I think after the last update. Have had my 2012 Mac mini for about a year now - have higher versions of the firmware etc., but the screen will randomly go blank (showing "HDMI Input" alert on the screen), and then cut back in. Super-frustrating. Nothing in my setup changed across the last year, but the problem randomly started happening. I don't suppose anyone else is still in this boat?

I have a mac mini (late 2012) with two monitors. When I had the Asus PB278 connected via mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort adapter at 2560x1440 and the Samsung E1920 connected via HDMI to DVI at 1366x768, the Asus would periodically go black for a second. Sometimes a few times a day, sometimes a few times an hour. It was annoying. I read through the message boards and tried different cables, reinstalled OS X, called Apple support, etc. Finally, I connected the Asus via HDMI, which I was determined not to do since it drops the max resolution to 1080P and connected the Samsung via mini DP to DVI. It fixed the problem. Even though I'm not getting the maximum resolution from the Asus anymore, the 1080P actually looks better. The menus and icons are easier to read, photos and movies seem just as sharp, and the detail I needed for stock charts is there. Best of all, no more random blanking out of the screen.

I think I have a similar issue with my mid 2011 Mac Mini. maybe this information will help.

    Mac Mini 2011 -> Yamaha RX-V677 -> Sony KDL-52EX

picture constantly blacks out (about 2 seconds) then comes back. No problems with audio.

This does not happen when connected directly to the TV.

The interesting thing is this also does not happen in the following situations:

Running in Bootcamp with Windows 7

Running in single user mode (command line only)

Things I've tried that has not helped:

    changing hdmi cables

changing hdmi ports on the receiver

upgrading from 10.10 to 10.11 after I noticed it worked fine under Windows

    perform smc reset

    updating receiver firmware

    removing com.apple.windowserver.plist files

setting ColorSync profiles in system preferences and ColorSync Utility

All this leads me to believe that there is some kind of bug in OS X itself. The hardware seems perfectly able to output a stable HDMI signal.
