Q: Photo library in time machine

When I enter time machine I cant tell if my photo library is backed up.  When I click on "quick view" it appears as if there is nothing there.  Any insights?

To check that your iPhoto library is being backed up, open System Preferences -> Time Machine -> Options, and see if the folder which contains the library is included in the excluded items list. If so, remove it.

Then, go to the folder with the iPhoto library and open Time Machine. Use the arrows to navigate through your backups and check that your iPhoto library shows up.

Unfortunately, Apple removed the option to browse your iPhoto Library backups in Time Machine a few years ago.  All that you can do now is restore the entire library from your Time Machine backup.

You can insure that the iPhoto Library is being backed up by comparing the size of the iPhoto Library on your Mac to the size of the iPhoto Library in your backups.

To do that, click the Finder icon at the lower left of the dock. Open the Pictures folder. Right-click on the iPhoto Library and jot down the size of the library.

Now open Time Machine and navigate to the iPhoto Library.  Right click on the library and note the size.

If the sizes are the same, you know that your iPhoto Library is being backed up.
