Q: How do I get audio into MacBook Pro that does not have a combination input/output audio port?

How do I get audio into a MacBook Pro that does not have a combination input/output audio port?  Believe me when I say my 1/8" port can not act as an input.  I have gone to Systems Preferences and there is no selection to use a input. BELiEVE ME!  I can't input via the 1/8" port.

I hear that Griffin Technology has their iMic and M-Audio has M-Track, that are USB interfaces but it seems both work with Mavericks(even tho their website does not say they work with 10.9) and both do not work with Yosemite.  Both companies talk of a fix but they offer no idea as to when that might happen.

Can anyone offer any suggestions or recommendations?

Many thanks to you Mac brainiacs!!!

Audio 'in' the audio output port has been discontinued on the 13" MBP.s.  You will have to use a USB device with the appropriate software.

    Ogelthorpe,

Thank you for your prompt answer.

Best Buy had M-Audio's M-Track USB interface on sale for $90(instead of $100) and they said the return policy was 15 days.  I purchased it and even tho their website says it only works up to 10.8, it is working for me on 10.9(didn't need any drivers or software as Audacity and Audio Hijack Pro recognized it).  I haven't tried it for output but I didn't get it for that.   Online blogs have said it(like the iMic) will not work in 10.10 and I am so glad I NEVER NEVER NEVER rush to do an OS upgrade!!!  I will be very careful about upgrading as I may never be able to get audio into my MacBook Pro again.

There were some other USB adapters on Amazon that were quite inexpensive to enter audio but the one I saw only allowed mono input and the others didn't say stereo.

iMic for $30(or so) might have well done the job but the M-Track offers other features above iMic that I may use in the future as a music teacher and could well make it well worth the extra money.

Thank you for you help,  Happy New Year!
