Q: Why can't this computer recognise my iPhone in iPhoto when connected
I connected my iPhone 4 (I don't know if it's iPhone 4 or 4S) to my MacBook Pro with Yosemite 10.10.1. Why can't iPhoto recognise it? iTunes also doesn't recognise it. Am I doing it the wrong way? I want to import my photos to iPhoto. I have 2 cables and both don't work.
MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1), I also have a iPhone 4 iOS 7.1.1

iPhoto doesn't even launch when I connect the iPhone. Neither does Image Capture. Tried connecting to Image Capture with 91% battery.
iTunes, iPhoto, Image Capture do not necessarily launch, when an iPhone is connected. That can have been disabled in Image Capture, in the menu n the lower left corner (behind the disclosure triangle).
But you see the iPhone in Image Capture or iPhoto, if you launch iPhoto yourself, your iPhone should be showing in the "Devices" section of the source list. Can you see the iPhone in iTunes or iPhoto, if you launch these apps yourself, after connecting the iPhone?
Looks like a problem with my iPhone. Is it?
If the iPhone does not show at all, but is properly charged, and there are photos on it, and the connectors are o.k., and the sockets are free of dust and debris, it looks like a problem with the iPhone.
Try the three "R"s - reset, restart, restore: Before restoring, make a backup to iCloud (iCloud: Backup and restore overview): See the links below:
- Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
- Restoring: Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support
- If the iPhone does not appear in iTunes, force it into recovery mode: If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
