Q: My iPhone 6 was stolen, is there anything I can do?

I was robbed of my iPhone 6 yesterday. I reported it to the police. I had Find My iPhone turned on but the person has not turned on the phone. I have contacted my phone company to put it on the list of stolen or lost phones, but I have not had the service cut in hope that it will return online and I can get an address. I am wondering has anyone else had their phone stolen, were they able to have it recovered and if not did they purchase another iPhone. This was my very first iPhone and my second Apple product (iPad Air was my first); I do not think I would purchase another iPhone because I feel so uncomfortable owning a phone that can get me robbed again or worse. I tried to run after him which was stupid because it happened in a dangerous neighborhood and I am 21 year old girl. I don't feel too mad that I lost the phone but more so that I was stupid enough to fall for the trap of trying to help someone  who had ill intentions.

So you're not going to own any smart phones from here on out?  You could've had an Android and they could've stolen, that does that mean you won't purchase another Android phone?

If your purse got stolen, would you not buy another purse of the same brand?

If you car got stolen, would you refuse to buy a car of the same brand?

Your statement is patently illogical.  Buy whatever you want.  The odds of your property getting stolen have far more to do with you and your behaviors than the product itself.

You're right it could have been any other phone. It more so bothers me to own the same phone that I got stolen because it reminds me of what happened. I really wanted to know whether anyone was able to recover a stolen phone.

Ok, that makes sense.  Some people have and some haven't recovered their stolen phone.

My behavior was very stupid, but there is nothing I can do about it now. Your comment did make me think things over. Like I commented to another user it isn't about the phone that was stolen it is about carrying a reminder of the event.

Get over it.  Bad things happen to good people.  That's the way of the world.

But when you voluntarily choose to carry that emotional baggage, then you're giving power to the criminal.  It's your choice whether or not to allow someone to have power over your emotions.

Your absolutely right. I need to get over it. I often have trouble doing so with things (getting over them) and that is something I need to learn. Things could have been worse I know. Any tips on how to get over it? I put the phone in lost mode is there anything else I should do; what can I do to erase everything on it?

After you put the phone in lost mode, you have the ability to remote erase the device.  But if you do that, you lose the ability to track the device.

If my service is canceled can I still track the phone? I have not canceled service yet.

Only if it is connected to Wifi.  It has to have some type of network connection to be located.  And if there is no nearby wifi network, then the cellular network would be the best bet at locating it.

CloakMoon, Did you ever get your iPhone back? I 'lost' mine last night and within in 20 minutes I went to 'find my iPhone.' I keep getting "offline" which leads me to believe that whoever has it, has no intention on getting it back to me.  Just curious what you went through to try to track yours?

    thx, ~C
