Q: Mavericks Install DVD

Hi All

I'm currently looking the Installation DVD for Mavericks. Reason being, that our company use's over 100 MacBook Pro's and we can't download 6GB everytime we want to upgrade a user's laptop. We would like it to be on DVD. Where can i get the installation DVD from or even download it?

Regards

Yes the usb will boot faster than a dvd, so that's what I told the thread starter, Desiganp, with the 100 computers at the beginning of this thread as well as instructions on how to make the usb too.

But scrutinizer82 already knows about the usb method, he just wants to make a dvd too. Unfortunately he found a website with instructions which were slightly flawed. I told him how to fix it so he should be able to make a bootable dvd now.

Well, you'll laugh but I can't burn it to DVD. I mounted it first, but it didn't help. Could it be the reason that all .iso files are set up to be opened by Unarchiver or it's not the case?  Could be another one the DVD itself (Think Xtra brand)?

You shouldn't mount the iso. Just drag the iso into disk utility and burn it to dvd with that. You have to use a dual layer dvd.

That's what I did. Mounted or unmounted, no success.

I saw in your other thread that your iso files are showing up as Unarchiver files.

You could try changing the default app for isos to what it is supposed to be on a mac, i.e., DiskImageMounter.

Also, did you use a dual layer dvd?

A single layer dvd is too small.

Um, yeah, I use DVD+R DL (which stands for Double Layer). I'm starting to think the culprit could be the brand (Think Xtra, heard of it?).

Just tried to burn changing the default app to DIM. And again the same message that Optical Drive doesn't respond etc.

How about converting the iso to cdr and burning that instead? Sometimes that works better than burning the iso.

    1. Open Disk Utility

    2. Drag & drop the .iso onto the left panel

    3. Highlight the .iso

    4. Choose "Convert" at the top

    5. Choose "DVD/CD master" for the image format

    6. For encryption choose "none"

    7. Click "Save", and make sure the file type is ".cdr" (you can keep the .iso if you want as well)

    8. After some time, you will have another image; burn that image

    9. Insert a dual layer DVD, and choose the slowest possible burn time (for safety)

    10. Choose to verify the disk you are burning as well, then click "Burn"

No. I have not heard of Think Xtra.

I made bootable dvds of lion, mountain lion, mavericks and yosemite on verbatim dvds and they all work. So maybe switching brands might help.

Are you able to burn other image files to dvd? If not, you might want to also do a hardware test to see if your drive is faulty.

Well, quite predictably it fail this time too. I give up but more and more I'm starting to suspect the ****** brand. Anyway, thank you for your time, patience and consideration. I'll definitely give another try with Verbatim. As for this one well all it's capable of is simple burning (copying) files.

Also if you are not having much luck with the disk utility app, you can also burn the iso from within terminal. Just run this:

    hdiutil burn Mavericks.iso

or if you have to specify the path,

    hdiutil burn ~/Desktop/Mavericks.iso

    That might be easier.

Ok, Terminal also wasn't much of help. Obviously the data holder is corrupted.

Yes. After following all the 12 steps to create the iso file, the file should be called Mavericks.iso and should appear on your desktop. That is what we want to burn to dvd.
